Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented June 26, 191%".
Application filed September 19, 1916. Serial No. 1213505.
To all/whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, Evan B. Jones, a citizen of the United States, residing at La (lrande, in the county of Union, State of Oregon, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Gloves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same...
This invention relates to gloves and has special reference to a combined glove and cleaning flap attached thereto, the complete article being for the purpose of washing dishes,,dusting, polishing or the like.
One important object of the invention is to provide an improved and simple device of this character.
Figure 1 is a front view of the glove and flap, the flap being shown as folded back in full lines and in its attached position in dotted lines.
Fig. 2 is a back view thereof.
Fig. 3 is a detail showing the glove before the flap is applied thereto.
Fig. 4 is a detail view of the flap detached from the glove. Fig. 5 is a front view similar to Fig. 1 but showing a modified form of the device.
Fig. 6 is a view similar to Fig. i and SllOWlfl a modified form of uiltin used in b b connection with the device.
Fig. 7 is autransverse section through the [lap showing he reinforcing therefor,
ln the embodiment (if the invention herein illustrated there is shown a glove which is provided with apalm portion 10, a thumb stall 11 and a stall for the forefinger as at 12. The remaining three fingers are held in a common stall 13.
At 14 is a flap which is preferably made I of some quilted material and of double thick ness. This flap is attached to the back side of the forefinger stall 12 by means of a row of stitching 15, the stitching being continued around the base of the thumb as at 16. Moreover, the flap is secured as at 17 to the base of the outer metatarsal portion of the palm of the glove and on the back to the inner metatarsal portion as indicated at 18. Mounted on the portion 13 of the glove is a snap button member 19 which cooperates with a similar snap button member 20 mounted on the flap 14. It will be observed that this flap 14 projects all around the ex tremities of the glove and the outer side thereof as clearly seen in Fig. 2.
By means of this construction the movements of the forefinger and thumb of the user in Washing dishes are not restricted so that the possibility of a dish slipping from the hand is practically eliminated. Furthermore, the arrangement which holds the flap extending across the glove prevents the flap from doubling up into a ball in the palm of the hand while at the time, when it is desired to wash the glove and flap, access is afforded to the inner side of the flap and the palm portion of the glove by simply re leasing the snap button parts 19 and 20 from each other. i
In the form shown in Fig. 5 the fastening at 17 is preferably made detachable, the ordinary button 21 and snap socket 22 being employed at this point as clearly shown in this figure. This form has the advantage of affording complete access to the inside of the fiap 14: so that it may be more readily washed than where the flap is permanently secured as indicated in Figs. 1 to 3.
The rectangular quilting shown in Figs. 1 to 5 ma be modified also as shown in Fl dwherein a spiral quilting 23 is employed.
For, certain purposes it is also advisable to make the flap in two thicknesses as indicater at Ql in Fig. 7, the flap being rein-' forced by a stiff filling E25 quilted to the thicknesses as at 27 the thicknesses 24 being connected by stitching 26 at their edges.
Furthermore when the device is to be used dry, as for instance in dusting or polishing, q
it is preferred that the cuff be made off as indicated at 28 in g. '5. It wiii be olivi- Oils thetin place of: the ini ibei' any suitable elastic meterizii may be used.
There ifihus been provided a simple and efficient device of the kind desci'iioed and for Ehe P511 iose Specified.
It is obvious that many minor changes may be made in the form and construction of the invention Without departing from the material principles thereof. it is not there fore desired to confine the invention to the exactfOlIll herein shown and desci'ii ad but it is Wished to include all such forms as properly come Within the so 3 ciaiiiioii.
Having thus described the inventiom wiiui is claimed as new, is
The combination with a 'iove and a He) 7 n J. therefor covering one entire glove, oz memo; to seem: said 'iiep semi glove and prevent;
Wrinkiing' up of the ia consisting of e, line of stifiching connecting one side of the flap to the glove from a pointat the Wrist on one side of the base of the glove thumb around the thumb between said thumb and the linger portion of the glove to a point at the wrist on the other side of the base of the thumb a snap button detechaoiy connecting the flap with the grieve adjacent the extremity of the little ingei' of the wearer, and a second snap button detechaoly connecting the fizz with the glove at the portion Zldjib cent the wrist and opposite the tiiiilllbn In testimony whereof, I nfiix my signw time, in the presence of two witnesses.
