My invention relates to sheaths for covering an ordinary broom, said sheaths being removable and being provided with several layers of soft textile material to serve the function of a mop for wiping floors, walls, furniture and the like.

A further object of my invention is to provide a sheath of the aforementioned character which may be removably attached to the effective working head of a broom it being provided with fastening means to enable the same to be removably attached to the said broom.

Another object of my invention is to provide an article of the aforementioned character which is partly bisected at its upper mid-portion longitudinally in order to be easily attached to a broom head proper.

Another object of my invention is to provide a simple, inexpensive tape attaching element which will secure the attachment to the head of a broom.

Another object of my invention is to provide anarticle with the aforegoing advantages and properties which is practical and eiiicient in its use and operation, which is easily attached to a broom head, which may be readily laundered and reused, and which is made of inexpensive material, it being of such a simple construction as to warrant economical manufacture in quantity production.

Other features and objects resident in my invention will become apparent from an examination of the accompanying drawing and the elucidation in the ensuing description in which like numerals or symbols are used to designate like parts and in which;

Referring to the various figures, in Figure 1, in full lines is shown my invention attached to a broom 8, and in dotted lines showing the opening of the body element of my invention generallyT designated 9 in open position ready to admit the effective head of a broom.

As can be seen, the body element comprising my invention generally designated 33, Figure 5, is comprised of two substantially triangular pieces 33 and 3l folded over on the line 32 and having upper rounded portions being cut as indicated at I3 up to the point I I, the upper parts 3i! and 3! 0f the element 33 folding on the base line 32.

When properly folded and sewed together with the element made up of sections I1 and I3 as will hereinafter be explained, the body member of my invention designated 2S is formed. The lower portion or the effective operating portion of the invention is made up of two layers of material designated Il and i8 and shown in development in Figure 6 wherein the angular portions I9 are cut so as to form when folded over on the imaginary line 2Q four trapezoidal sections which are sewed together as shown by stitching 2l and 22, the stitching continuing upwardly so as to close the sides of the element 29 presenting but a single opening on the lines IG.

The diagonal stitching 23 serves the function of reinforcing the mop head proper made up of sections I1 and I8 respectively sewed to sections 30 and 3i. The neck portions I2 are shown on opposed sides and are so disposed as to fold around the upper portion of the broom handle to be held in place by the element I3 which is a strap made of suitable textile or elastic Inaterial having a few slots I4 and a knotted portion I5 being also provided with a hand grip I6 for effectively pulling the knot I5 thru one of the openings I4, several of such openings being provided for adjustable purposes in order to hold securely the element 29 in assembly with a broom,

The stitching 22 is preferably terminated at a point 34 so as to allow the neck portion to be free and open. On opposite sides of the element 29 are attached, by stitching as at 25, the elements 24 having knotted portions 25 and hand grips 21 for securing the said knotted portions 26 within the hem-stitched openings 28 providing an auxiliary hold for my invention in assembly to the head of a broom.

The tape element I3 may be stitched to one of the neck portions I2 so that the same may not be lost. The attachment may be used by manipulating the broom handle and in rubbing articles with the bottom portion the mop of same will cause dust to adhere thereto, or cause surplus oil to be absorbed by its capillary action when the invention is used for cleaning furniture or polishing the same with oil.

Altho I have herein described and illustrated a preferred form of my invention, it is understood that any alterations, modications, or improvements of which it is susceptible and which come within the scope and spirit of my invention are hereby reserved; my invention being limited by the subjoined claims.

Having thus revealed and disclosed my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

l. In a device of the character described, a fabric bag member made up of two substantially triangular sections folded over on their common base line, a cut portion of each of said triangular sections extending from each vertex of the said triangular sections to points equidistant from the said common base line, and neck portions secured to the vertices of said triangular sections disposedV alternately and adapted to encircle a broom handle.

2. In a device of the character described, a fabric bag member made up of twoV substantially triangular sections folded over on their common base line, a cut portion on each of said triangular sections extending from each Vertex of the said triangular sections to points equidistant from the said common base line, neck portions secured to the vertices of said triangular sections disposed alternately and adapted to encircle a broom handle, and a mop element composed of at least two trapezoidal sections folded over a common base line secured to the said fabric bag by stitching.

3. In a device of the character described, a fabric bag member made up of two substantially triangular sections folded over on their common base line, a cut portion on each of said triangular sections extending from each vertex of the said triangular sections to points equidistant from the said common base line, neck portions secured to the vertices of said triangular sections disposed alternately and adapted to encircle a broom handle, a mop element composed of at least two trapezoidal sections folded over a common base line secured to the said fabric bag by stitching, and diagonal stitching from the top portions of the said trapezoidal sections meeting at a point bisecting the common base line of the said trapezoidal sections.
