1 Claim.

This invention relates to attachments for brooms and more particularly to a broom duster. One object is to provide a broom attachment adapted to greatly increase the efficiency of the broom, providing a handy device for removing cobwebs from ceilings and elsewhere, for removing dust from walls, over door and window casings and from ledges, corners and points that are ordinarily diiiicult of access with an ordinary broom, duster or other like implement.

A further object is to provide a broom duster that is readily applied to or removed from the broom by anyone, that is neat and attractive in appearance, durable and eicient in use. A further object is to provide a device of this class that is inexpensive to manufacture, that is readily washed when soiled and so again ready for use, that includes a material that in use absorbs dust and cobwebs like a sponge and that thereafter is as readily cleansed thereof as would a silk handkerchief.

With the foregoing and other objects in View the invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter fully described, pointed out in the claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this patent and in which- Fig. l is a view of the device in perspective attached to a broom.

Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view through Fig. 1 on the line 3-3 thereof.

Like reference characters denote corresponding parts throughout.

The reference numeral I denotes a broom of ordinary construction having the usual handle 2.

The duster includes a body portion 3 which is shaped to conform substantially to the broom and adapted to receive the same through its open end 4 and slitted edge 5 which edge is provided with snap fasteners adapted to retain it in closed position about the broom. The lower and wider end of the duster body portion is closed and thereto are secured the rows of strands of dusting material preferably composed of a soft fluffy white yarn.

Preferably the strands of yarn are arranged in a continuous row 1 extendingA entirely about the lower end of the body 3 horizontally immediately above the closed end B, each strand of yarn being folded to form a closed eye-shaped end 9 which is separated from the open ends by the stitching III securing it to the `body. Extending longitudinally of the closed end 8 of the body in parallel rows I I, I2 are like strands of yarn secured by stitching I3 to close'd end 8, the stitching engaging the yarn strands midway between their ends, the rows II, l2 being preferably continuous about the end 8 so that they meet, a short vertical row of strands extending from the point of juncture of said rows to the continuous row 'I so that the space shown in Fig. 2 beneath the row 1 and between rows 1 and row I I on one side and between row 1 and row I2 upon the opposite side is bridged at two points which points are directly opposite each other upon the narrow faces or edges of the body 3. In this specific manner a very efficient dusting head is provided which will closely engage any surface over which it is moved, getting into cracks, crev ices and narrow spaces.

It will be noted that the lower or open ends of the strands of yarn of row 1 extend downwardly about' the rows II, I2 of strands substantially overlapping their upper portions. `The specific manner of arrangement of the strands in row 1 and their position relative to rows II, I2, the strands of all rows being closely or compactly associated, the eyes 9 of row 'I extending laterally somewhat from the body 3 provides a duster head adapted for effectually reaching corners, the edges of wall mouldings and other I points and places that could not be closely and eifectually gone over and cleaned and the dust and other accumulatons eiectually removed with dusters of conventional construction and arrangement of parts. y

What is claimed is:

In duster attachments for brooms, a body portion having one closed and one open end and a slitted side and adapted to enclose a broom head, fasteners for said side, a continuous row of yarn strands extending horizontally about said body portion spaced from said closed end, said strands being folded, stitching securing said strands to said body below their fold points forming loopshaped upper terminals disposed longitudinally of said body, said loop-shaped terminals standing upwardly and outwardly edgewise to said body portion, rows of yarn strands extending longitudinally of said closed end wholly beneath same, and rows of stitching securing said last named yarn strands at their mid-sections to the closed end of said body portion, said continuous row overlapping said last named rows of strands.
