To all whom it may concern! I? Be it known that I, HENRY H. N ORRINGTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at West Bay City, county of Bay, State of Michigan, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Reversible Inking-Pads; and I- declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.

My invention has for its object a novel ink ing-pad of superior efficiency and utility; and it consists of the combinations of devices hereinafter describedand'claiined, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in Which- Figure 1 is a view in perspective illustrating features of my invention. Fig. 2 illustrates a modification of the invention. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section illustrating still another modification ot' the invention. Fig. 4 is a plan view illustrating still another modification of the same. Fig. 5 is a plan view illustrating another modification ot' the invention.

The object of my invention is to provide an inking-pad which shall be permanently secured in a suitable box or case andwhich may be reversible, so that a single pad can carry two colors of ink, one on each surface thereof.

To this end, as shown in the drawings, any suitable receptacle is shown at a. In Fig. 1 the receptacle is indicated, the cover being in raised position. In Fig. 2 the cover portion of the receptacle is omitted, as also in Figs. 8 and 4:.

My improved reversible inking-pad is shown at I). In Fig. 1 the pad is slightly raised from the box. In Fig. 2 the pad is shown raised to a higher position still, as also in Fig. 3. In Fig. 4. two separate inking-pads b b are shown in the receptacle a. In the latter case each of the pads 19 b is made reversible, so that two pads may carry four dilferent colors of ink.

A leading feature of my invention pertains to the mounting of the pad in the box by the pivoted engagement with the pad and with the box of reversing-arms. In Fig. 1 arms 0 care shown, said arms being formed in a single integral piece, the body of which passes throughthe pad, as indicated in dotted lines, the extremities of said arms being pivotally engaged in the ends of the box, as indicated at d. As shown, the'arms are made in a single integral piece. Essentially the same idea is carried out in Fig. 2, wherein separate arms 0 c are employed, each pivotally engaged at opposite extremities to the pad and to the box, as indicated at e and f. The action of the pad and of the reversing-arms is the same as in the device illustrated in Fig. 1. In Fig. 3 the arms 0 0 have their extremities pivotally engaged with the pad, as before. These arms are formed in a single integral piece, as in Fig. 1; but the body of the arms instead of passing through the pad have arockin g movement in the case or box, as indicated at g and 71. As illustrated in Fig. 4, each of the pads b is mounted upon arms 0 0, formed with an 4: the reversible arms are in the nature of a swinging frame. It will be perceived that it is not necessary to separate the pad from the receptacle in order to raise and reverse it and readjust it in the receptacle, as the pad or pads do not require to be detached from the receptacle in order to be revolved and re versed.

In Fig. 5 the arms c c are conducted through one of the longitudinal walls of the box, as indicated at j j, said wall of the box being provided with cars 70 is, engaging the outer extremities of the arms, the arms having a rocking engagement in'said ears, the wall of the box being recessed at j j to receive the arms a c and permit their oscillation.

It is evident that the arms are jointedly connected with the pad at the longitudinal center thereof, while they are also jointedly connected with the receptacle at one side the longitudinal center of the receptacle and toward one of the marginal edges thereof at opposite corners of the receptacle, this .construction affording sufficient length of the arms to permit the pad being lifted so as to be turned over. This construction also permits the arms to be folded down and lie in normal position adjacent to the extremities of the receptacle when the pad is in normal position.

What I claim as my invention is 1. In a reversible inking-pad, a receptacle,

arms connected at their outer ends to the receptacle, and a reversible inking-pad pivoted between the inner ends of the arms whereby the inking-pad has a permanent and fixed engagement with the receptacle, substantially,

as shown.

2. In a reversible inking-pad, a receptacle, arms loosely connected to the receptacle at its corners, and reversible inking-pads pivoted between the outer ends of the arms, whereby the inking-pads have a permanent and fixed engagement with the receptacle, substantially as described.

3. The combination with a receptacle, of a series of reversible inking-pads having a permanent and fixed engagement therewith, substantially as set forth.

4. In a reversible inking-pad, a receptacle, arms connected at their outer ends to the receptacle, and a reversible inking-pad pivotally engaged upon said arms.

5. In a reversible inking-pad, the combination of a receptacle, a reversible inking-pad, and arms having a jointed connection with the pad at the longitudinal center thereof, said arms also having a jointed connection with the receptacle toward one of the marginal edges of the receptacle at opposite corners thereof,whereby said arms may be folded down adjacent to the extremities of the receptacle when the pad is in normal position therewithin.

6. In a reversible inking-pad, the combination of a receptacle, a reversible inking-pad, and arms having a jointed connection with the extremities of the pad at the longitudinal center thereof, said arms extending inthe same direction from the longitudinal center of the pad to an adjacent marginal edge of the receptacle and having a jointed connection with the marginal edges of the receptacle at opposite corners thereof, whereby said arms may be folded down adjacent to the extremities of the receptacle when the pad is in normal position therewithin.
