EDWARD WECK, OF NEW YORK, .N. Y.
SAFETY-RAZOR-BIQADE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 16, 1916.
Application filed. November 17, 1914. Serial No. 872,524.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD 71201:, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, county of Kings, and State of New York, (whose post-office address is 1 18 Fulton street, New York city,) have invented a new and useful Improvement in Safety-Razor-Blade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a device of this class which will securely and properly hold one or more safety razor blades, so that the same will always be protected against all atmospheric influences, and the edges will always be kept out of contact with any solid matter, so that under all circumstances the blades may be kept in proper condition for use.
A further object is to provide a cheap and durable device for blades of this class in which the blades may be readily inserted or removed.
These, and other objects are accomplished by my invention, one embodiment of which is hereinafter set forth.
For a more particular description of my invention, reference isto be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof, in which Figure 1 is a plan View of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a sectional view, taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows. Fig. 3 shows an end view of my improved device with the cover removed. Fig. 1 is a plan view of the structure showing a recess in which a razor blade is placed. Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a portion of my improved device showing a blade which may be either further inserted or removed.
Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters des ignate similar parts.
My improved holder 1 is provided with a cylindrical body-portion 2 which is preferably composed of wood and metal. The center part 3 is preferably composed of wood, although it may be made of any other suitable material, and is provided with suitable recesses 4 each of which is provided with a circular or otherwise enlarged end 5 near its exterior or cylindrical surface, and a smaller enlarged end 6 near its center and between these enlarged ends are disposed the narrow connecting parts 7, so that when a blade 8 is placed in one of these recesses, or openings, the blade may have its enlarged part resting in the opening 5 and properly heldtherein, and its cutting edge in the opening 6, where it is sure to be out of contact with any solid matter, although the sides of the blade may engage either of the walls of the part 7 In the embodiment of my invention herein shown, the reinforced edge of a blade 8 is entirely in the part 5 of a recess 4.
One end of the body-portion 3 is closed by a suitable disk 9 which may be held in any suitable manner, and be made of any suitable material. The other end has a suitable perforated disk 10 which is likewiseheld to the body portion 3 and secured in any suitable manner. The disk 10 is perforated so that the perforations register exactly with the corresponding openings in the part 3. A disk 11 is mounted to rotate on a pivot 12 which runs through the disk 10and into the center of the body 3, so that this disk 12 may rotate upon the disk 10, a projection 13 being placed on the disk 11 for this purpose. This disk 11 has a suitably disposed slot 14 which is adapted to register with any of the openings 4 in the body 2, and yet be small enough to rest between the same, as in the position shown in Fig. 1, so that all of the recesses 4 will be suitably closed when a blade 8 is in place. It will be noted that only one of these recesses 44: is open at a time, and that all may be closed, so thatone blade may be inserted or removed at a time, and at other times the blades are protected and secured.
While I have shown and described one embodiment of my invention, it is obvious that it is not restricted thereto but is broad enough to cover all structures that come within the scope of'the annexed claim.
What I claim is:
In a device of the class described, a cylindrical recessed body portion having a plurality of blade receiving means, each of top adapted to register with any of said Which is adapted to hold a blade with its blade receiving means.
edge out of contact with any solid substance, EDWARD VECK. regardless of the position in which the de- Witnesses:
Vice is placed, and a rotary top pivoted ALBERT H. WECK,
on said cylindrical body with a slot in said O. E. EDWARDS, Jr.
