APPLICATION FILED JUNE 6,192].

UNHTEEE STATES GEORGE W. MCMAI-IAN,
DIP
Application filed June 6,
To all whom it may con-(201m:
Be it known that I, GEORGE MGMAHAN,
a citizen of the United States, residing at Lincoln, in the county of Logan and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Dip Net, of which the following is a specification.
This invention aims to provide a frame for a minnow net, so constructed that it may be folded up when not in use, to occupy but little space, the construction being such that the net proper will be held under tension.
It is within the province of the disclosure to improve generally and to enhance the utility of devices of that type to which the invention appertains.
lVith the above and other objects in View, which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combina tion and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that, within the scope of what is claimed, changes in the precise embodiment, of the invention shown can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 shows in side elevation a device constructed in accordance with the invention; Figure 2 is a top plan; Figure 3 is a fragmental section taken through the head, parts appearing in elevation; and Figure t is a. perspective view wherein the frame is shown folded.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided a head 1 having outstanding ears 2 carrying pivot elements 3, the head being provided with a suspension member 12.
Arms 4: are provided, each arm preferably including a resilient, tapered body 5, which may be made of wood, if desired. Each arm 4; is supplied in its upper end with a slot 6 receiving a metal hinge plate 7 extended between the ears 2 and mounted to swing on one of the pivot elements 3, the plate 7 being held in place by securing ele- Parser earne s,-
or LINCOLN. ILLINOIS.

ments 8. Sockets 9 are mounted on the lower ends of the body portions 5 of the arms t and terminate in hooks 10 wherewith the corners of a net 11 are detachably connected.
The plates 7 of the arms at rest against the head 1, as shown in Figure 3 and the dimensions of the net 11 preferably are such that when the corners of the net are mounted on the hooks 10, the body portions 5 of the arms 4; will be bowed slightly, as shown at 14;. Consequently, the arms exert an outward tension on the net 11 and prevent the net from sagging unduly, the net, further, being held upon the hooks 10, owing to the construction and operation last above alluded to.
WVhen the occasion for the use of the device has passed, the arms 4 may be swung backwardly, in the direction of the arrow A in Figure 1, until the arms are disposed in approximate parallelism, as depicted in Figure t, the net having first been detached from the hooks 10. A glance at Figure at will render it evident that, at the will of the user, the frame portion of the device may be disposed in compact form for transportation or storing.
I claim In a device of the class described, a head having outstanding cars; a suspension member mounted in the head; rigid hinge plates pivoted to the ears and adapted to bear against the head; tapered resilient arms secured to the hinge plates; sockets mounted on the lower ends of the arms and provided with hooks; and a net engaged detachably with the hooks and held suspended by the arms.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE W. lVloMA H AN.
