EMANUEL HOKANSON. OF GROOKSTON, MINNESOTA.
POCKET-BOOK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 11, 1919.
Application filed October 23, 1918. Serial No. 259,341.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EMANUEL HOKANSO-N, a citizen of the United States, residing at Grookston, in the county of Polk and State of Minnesota, hav invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pocket-Books; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a pocket book and consists essentially in the provision of a pocket book having a frame With a resilient bowed portion with a catch adapted, when depressed, to relieve the jaws, one upon either side, and to which the side walls of the pockets are attached.
The invention consists of a simple and efficient device of this character having various details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts which will be hereinafter fully described, shown in the accompanying drawings and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings which, with the letters of reference marked thereon, form a part of this application and in which:
Figure 1 is a view in elevation with one jaw opened.
Fig. 2 is a view showing the jaws closed.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional view on line 38 of Fig. 1, and
Fig. 4 is a view on line 44 of Fig. 1.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter:
A designates the frame of the pocket book, to which the two jaws B and G are pivoted, and the jaw B has a hook D, while the jaw C has a similar hook E projecting at right angles from the inner edge thereof. The frame, to which the upper portion of the central partition between the two pockets is fastened, is provided with a shoulder I having a beveled edge I. The said frame is provided with bowed resilient portion K having a beveled end K adapted to normally engage the under beveled edge L of a rigid curved portion L of the frame. The resilient portion K is provided with an integral projection K upon the under surface thereof, which is provided with an elongated opening N, the bottom of which opening is provided with two oppositely inclined surfaces designated respectively by letters 0 and R, the former of which is adapted to be engaged frictionally by the hook D upon the jaw B when the latter is swung to a closed position, and as the inclined end of the hook bears against the inclined surface 0, the curved portion K of the frame will yield slightly to permit the hook to catch over the inner edge of the projection K after which the part K will spring back to its normal position. The end of the projection K adjacent to said shoulder I is provided with a groove K adapted to receive the beveled edge I serving as a guide for the resilient portion K as the latter is depressed when it is desired to open the pocket book. The hook E upon the jaw C operates in the same manner when coming in contact with the inclined surface R upon the projection K the part K again yielding to permit the hook E to engage over the edge of the slot, thus locking the jaws together. hen it is desired to release the jaws, the operator by pressing upon the outer surface of the member K near its free end, may cause the projection K to disengage the hooks after which either one of the jaws may be swung open to give access to the pockets, the walls of which are attached to said jaws.
What I claim to be new is:
A pocket book, comprising a frame with a central partition and oppositely disposed jaws pivoted thereto, said partition having integral bowed portions spanning an elongated recess in the partition and said bowed portions having beveled ends, one being resilient with a rectangular yoke depending from its under edge, said yoke provided with a vertical groove in one edge, said partition having an upwardly extending lug with a beveled edge engaging said groove, the upper edge of the depending portion of said yoke having oppositely disposed beveled edges, integral hooks projecting in op- In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my posite directions one upon each of said j aWs signature in presence of two Witnesses.
and adapted to engzwe said beveled edges as the jaws are closed: causing the resilient EMANUEL HOKANSON' bowed portion to yield slightly to permit the Witnesses: hooks to engage over the opposite edges of Mrs. OTTO KOEPPE, the yoke. G. B, HILMEN.
Copies of this patent may be obtained for five cents each, by addressing the Commissioner of Patents, Weshingtem, B. *3.
