Lam Patent No. 64,925, dated May 21, 1867.

TO ALL WHOM'IT .MAY- CONCERN: I
Be it known that I. WESTON, of Towanda, in the county of Bradford, and State of Pennsylvanimhave invented a new and useful Improvement in Attaching Burners to Lamps, and that the following description,
taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact specification of the same, whereinl have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvement, by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to have secured to me by Letters'Patent. v
This invention relates to a new and improved manner of attaching burners to lamps, whereby the collar orsocket on the lamp in which the burner is screwed may be readily applied to and detached from the lamp, and in case of the breaking of alamp the collar detached and applied to another lamp with the greatest facility, the collar also when applied being held firmly in position. In the accompanying sheet of drawings- Figure 1 is a vertical central section of the upper part of a'lamp having its collar applied to it according to my invention.
Figure 2 an external view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
Arepresents the upper part of the body of a lamp, and B is the projection on which the collar 0 is secured. The interior of the collar has a screw-thread cut in it, and the exterior of the projection B has leather-(s or other suitable material fitted ina groove, 6, made circumferentially in it, as shown clearly in fig. 1. The collar 0 is screwed over the projection B and leather a, the latter serving as a packing for the collar, and in order to prevent the collar from casually turning and unscrewing one or more set-screws, a, may pass through the collar and into the leather a. In lieu of the leather a the projection B may be coated externally with gum shellac, and while the latter is in a soft and warm state the collar 0 screwed upon the projection B. By this arrangement thecollar C may be detached from and secured upon the projection B without any difl'icultywhatevcr.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent Providing the interior of the collar 0 with a screw, and having the exterior of the projection B covered with a packing, a, of leather or any suitable cement or composition, with set-screws cpassing through the collar, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 7th day of March, 1867.
v H. WESTON.
