UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
REGINALD G. BLOWER, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
PAPER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 647,369, dated April 10, 1900.
Application filed August 11, 1899. $erial No. 726,940. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, REGINALD G. BLOWER,
I a citizen of Great Britain, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles, State of California, have invented a new and useful Paper Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a paper-holder designed to be attached to a plate; and the obj ect thereof is to provide simple means to hold a newspaper so that it can easily be read while the reader is eating his meal. I accomplish this object by the mechanism described herein and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side .view of my paper-holder attached to a plate, and Fig. 2 is a front View of the same with the plate in section.
A is a spring-clip of any suitable construction, forming the bottom part of the holder, by means of which it is attached to a plate B when desired. y
C is the stem, rigidly attached to clip A. To each side of the top of stem 0 are downwardlyprojecting curved arms D, which unite stem 0 to back F in such manner that a pocket E is formed between the top of stem 0 and the lower part of back'F, in which the paper is placed to be read when the holder is attached to the plate.
I have illustrated my holder as made from wire, with the upper part of the stem spreading to form a large bearing on the paper in the pocket and the lower part twisted to make it stronger. It is obvious thatit canbe stamped out of sheet metal, if desired, and the pockets formed at the side of the stem.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A paper-holder for attachment toa plate comprising, a spring-clip, a stem attached to said clip, curved depending arms attached to the top of the stem and a back attached to said arms adapted to form a pocket between the lower part of said back and the upper part of said stem.
2. The herein-described paper-holder for at tachinent to aplate comprising, clip A, stem 0 attached thereto; arms D affixed to said stem and back F attached to said arms, said arms D and said back F adapted to form a pocket between the lower part of said back and the upper part of stem 0, substantially as described herein.
In Witness that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto subscribed my name, this 3d day of August, 1899, at Los Angeles, California.
REGINALD G. BLOWER.
