" UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN VILLY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NEWSPAPER-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 366,803, dated July 19, 1887.
Application filed April 7, 1887. Serial No. 234,098.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN \VILLY, a citizen of England, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Newspaper-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is a new kind of newspaperholder to be used in the delivery of newspapers at the homes, oliices, &c., of subscribers. Heretofore newspapers have generally been deposited in halls or on door-steps, and were liable to be blown about and damaged by wind and rain, and frequently lost, or they lJHNG been deposited in boxes which are more or less unsightly, bulky where space is valuable, and consuming time to open and close. The object of this contrivance, therefore,is to avoid all these difficulties and furnish a rapid, safe, and easy means of deliveringnewspapers, the carrier having to only push the paper toward the center of the coil by a forward turn of the wrist, and the removing of the newspaper being equally simple and easy, requiring only a backward turn of the wrist. I attain this obcompanying drawings, in which- (No model.)
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the entire contrivance. Fig. 2 is the contrivanee attached to a part of ahouse and holdinga newspaper.
Similar letters refer to similar parts.
The coil (0 is the grip or holder. The neck I), the S-shaped curves 0, and the point dare the parts necessary to attach the holder to the wall or other suitable place and to keep it in position. A small staple driven immediately below or above the 8 serves to maketheholdcr more secure.
The holder is made by bending a piece of wiresay about one-tenth of an inch in diameter and about sixteen inches long-into the shape shown in Fig. 1.
V hat I claim, and desire toseeure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
An attachable newspaper-holder consisting of an evolvent wire with neck, stay, and spike, the whole in one piece of wire, substantially as set forth.
