TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, JON YOUNG, of Amsterdam, in the county of' Montgomery, and State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful improvement in Olothes-Wringers; and I dohereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description ofthe construction and operation of the same, 'reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speciiication, in which- A l Figure 1 is a longitudinal central section of a portion of a clotheswringer, showing the position of the upper gear.

`Figure 2 is an axial View of my compromising gear.

The object of this invention is to admit of the upper roller or rollers of clothes-wringers to rise and fall, (as is well known they mnst,) with relation to the lower driving one, by giving va peculiar form to the gear applied to the upper roller and its points of bearing, in order that the pitch-circles ofboth upper and-lower gears shall be in practical harmony with each other.

The upper shaft B has a pin, CZ, driven therein near its outer end, which serves as a driver1 lto said shaft by being iitted into the recesses e ofthe gear F. The gear F has also conical depressions Vformed in its huh, as shown, the outer one of which turns on a conical pivot or stud, g, secured to a suitable standard or bracket, h, and the inner depression is made to loosely tit the rounded end of the shaft B in such a manner that the said shaft may be easily elevated as far above as is now represented below a level of the stud or conical bearing or centre, g, without binding It will be seen that the gear F performs a. sort oi' gyratory motion when the clothes are being passed through between the rollers. The bracket l. is formed with an appropriate depression and swell, as shown in 5g. 1, in order that the'whole may be very neat and compact. l

Having thus described my invention, what I desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

l. I claim the gear F, when applied to the upper shaft B of clothes-wringers, in the manner herein shown and described, and opereting'as set forth.

'2. I claim, in combination with the gear F, the cone or centre g, and pin d, arrangedas described, when used in connection with the gear c, as specified.
