SIMON ELBAUM, OF WILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO SAMUEL VALENTINE, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SHIRT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Iatent No. 641,090, dated January 9, 1900.
I Application filed February 28, 1899. Serial No. 707,183. (No modeh) T (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, SIMON ELBAUM, of Wilkes-Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and Improved Shirt, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in shirts and similar garments; and the object is to provide a shirt or similar garment with a reinforce or yoke extended over the shoulders both back and front and also extended entirely around the ordinary sleeves for a portion of their length.
I will describe a shirt embodying my invention and then point out the novel features in the appended claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a partial section and partial front elevation of a shirt embodying my in vention. Fig. 2 is aback view thereof. Fig.
. 3 is a section on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1. Fig.
at is a section on the line4 4 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a section on the line 5 5 of Fig. 1. Fig. 6 shows the shoulder-reinforce detached. Fig. 7 shows the body of the garment detached. Fig. 8 shows a detached sleeve, and Fig. 9 shows the elbow reinforce.
Referring to the drawings,-1 designates the body of the shirt, to which sleeves 2 are attached in the ordinary manner. The shoulder-reinforce comprises a yoke 3, which extends entirely across the back, as indicated at 4, and is carried over the shoulders and extended downward, as here shown, to a point somewhat below the lower connection of the sleeve 2 with the body portion. The yoke has a portion 5 extended wholly around the sleeve and projected a portion of the length of said sleeve. This-portion 5 has its edges secured in the bottom hem of the sleeves and carried I employ reinforce-pieces 6 for the elbow por-' tions of the sleeves. These reinforce-pieces 6 have their edges stitched to the sleeve, and their outer ends are stitched in with the sleeve and wristband. These reinforce-pieces 6 extend but part way around the sleeve, as will be noted in Figs. 1 and 2, but have a portion extended across the seam of the sleeve in the form of a gusset, which materially strengthens the sleeve at this point.
While I have described the invention as in connection with a shirt, it is obvious that it may be applied to other garments-such, for instance, as hunting or sporting goods and waterproof garments.
Having thus fully described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- The combination with a shirt or the like, of a reinforce in the form of a yoke extending over the shoulders both back and front, said yoke having front and rear portions extending down to a point below the lower connection of the sleeves with the body and secured in the side seams thereof, and provided with end portions extending over a portion of the length of the sleeves and wholly around the same and having their edges secured in the bottom seams of the sleeves, substantially as described.
SIMON ELBAUM.
