Be it known that I, JOHN ROElJUCK, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and improved Match-Safe and I do hereby declare that the following is'a fnll,'clear,'and exact description thereof,

which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification in which---- 7 Figure 1 represents a front elevation, partly in section, of this invention.

Figure 2 is a transverse section of the'same, taken in the line z z, fig. 1.

Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.

This invention relates to a match-safe of simple construction, which is arranged with a design to cheapness and simplicity, while it answers all the purposes for which it is intended.

The invention consists in the arrangement and construction of a match-safe, the lower part of which forms a match-box, and is closed by a falling lid which is hinged in a. peculiar manner. Therupper part of the device is so shaped that it'is capable to receive and hold waste matches, and a match-safe is obtained which isrof superior convenience, neat in appearance, and not expensive construction, the mode of the latter being also partof this invention.

The match-safe A, which is made of-sheet metal, consists of two side pieces a a, bottom and frout piece 6,

back piece c, falling lid 01, and waste-match receiver -e. The bottom and front piece 6 forms the body of the match-box B, and is secured to the side pieces a a. The edges of b fit into grooves formed in the pieces a a,

and are secured therein with solder. These grooves can be stamped, and indicate the exact shape, of the box, whereby the connection is greatly simplified. The rear of the'piece 6 extends vertically'upwards, as shown in g. 2, and its upper edge is bent so as to form a groove or channel, f, into which the bentover edge of the lid d fits, as shown in fig. 2. This arrangement does away with any wire or pivots for connecting the lid, and thus the construction of the whole device is further simplified. The back piece a is soldered to the sides a a, and its lower edge is bent in a. little, so as tc conceal the hinge of the Iid and prevent the lid slipping too far back or moving in anyother way than is intended for opening the box. One or more holes are provided in the said back piece to enable the device to be hung up on the wall, but it may also be provided with legs, so that it will stand on a table or any other suitable device. The waste-match receiver e is made concave, and is soldered to the back piece and to the sides ofthe device. It forms a waste-match receiver, so that a person takings. match from the box B, after having lighted the same, will readily find a place where to put the waste match. On the outside of the pieces a a is arranged the sand, or emery, or other rough surface on which the matches can be lighted. i Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new,- and desire tosecur'e by Letters Patent, is-- The match-safe A, consisting of the bottom pioce'b, back piece '0, sides a d, falling lid d, hinged in the groovef, and waste-match receiver e, constructed and arranged as herein shown and described.
