TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:

Be it known that I, CHARLES BURGER, ofrNew Haven, in the county of New Haven, and State of' Connecticut, have invented a new improvement in Match-Safes; .and I do hereby declare the'following, when taken in connection with tl1e.accompanying drawings, and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represont, in;-

Figure 1, a perspective view; and in Figure 2, a section on line x zi v Y This inventionrelates to an' improvement in the construction of a receptacle for matches, and consists in the peculiar construction whereby a single match is atall times in4 position to be removed, and s'o that but one match at a, time ca'n be removed.

To enable others to construct my improvement, I will proceed to a description of the same as illustrated iu the accompanyingdrawings. g l

A is the back oi' the safe or case, and may be formed so as to be attached to the wall or any convenient position in any convenient or known manner. B, the bottom of the case, is made inclined downward from the hack, its front edge C turned up so as to form a trough,tD, between thel turned-11p part C and the front E `of the case, as clearly seen in fig. 2'. Near the centre of the said trough, and through the frontE, I cut u recess, as seen in fig. 1, and provide'the case with a. cover cr not, as may be deemed advisable. The front of the case E extends down so near to the bcttomts to leave a space only'sufciently large for a single match to pass into the trough therefore when the matches in lquantity are placed within the receptacle, one passes through the said space into the trough and the-re lies until removed, and is removed by takingit between 4the thumb and finger in the space formed in the trough, und when so removed a. second match follows it into thc trough, and so on until all the vmatches have been one by one removed.

I do not broadly .claim a. match-safe provided vwith an opening in its bottom through which the matches aro delivered.

Having therefo're thus fully described my invention, what l'claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

The match-safe, constructed substantially as herein described, provided with an inclined bottom, B, and the trough D, into which an openingr through the front permits a single match to enter the said trough, and constructed so as to remove the match from the said trough, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
