The nature of my invention consists in hinging face A on pin D, and using thumb-screw O in conjunction with spring E, as shown by the dotted line, to elevate or depress face A immediately in front of the cutting-edgeof bit B, thereby enabling me 'to expose the cuttingedge of bit B always evenly and securely at one operation, so as to cutdeepor shallow, as the case may require.
To enable others skilled in the art to make anduse my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I construct my plane-stock of any of the hard metals, and of the forni described, having a partition cast or riveted to the back of the stock, ruiming obliquely from the cuttingedge of bit B, to form a throat for the discharge of shavings. Bit B, is sup-ported between the stock and ycap G in V-shaped grooves, whose edges have a corresponding shape. Near the lower edge of cap G is another V-shaped groove, which lits upon a projection in the stock of the same shape, the whole being heldl firmly together by screw H.
I do not wish to coniine myself to the special construction of the plane herein described, as
this may be variously modified without changing the princ ple of my invention but VVha-t I do claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The exposing of the cutting-edge of bit B always evenly and securely at one operation, as described, or any other way substantially the same.
