Description

@geiten tatrs tttrnf @ffice WILLIAM E. ANDREWS, OF CAb/IBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS.
Letters .Patent No. 67,625, dated August 13, 1867.
IMPROVED SPICE-BOX.
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM E. ANDREWS, of Cambridge, in the county of Middlesex, and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful improvements in a Set of Portable Spice-Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanyingr drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon.
The nature of my invent-ion consists, 1"1rst,in arranging a set of portable spice-boxes in a frame or enclosing case in such a manner that each separate box forms a drawer; second, in a'peculiar construction of the drawers and enclosing case so that the drawers will not accidentally slide open, and so that when the drawers are opened to thc full `extent they are checked from further movement.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe its construction and use.
Figure l represents a perspective view of my improved set of spice-boxes or drawers.
Figure '2 represents a cross vertical section of the same, one ofthe drawers D represented as being closed, while another, D", represented as being opened.
The construction of my invention may be described as follows: A tin case, A -]3,is constructedof any form, size, and design, as, for instance, the one represented in the drawings. A handle, C, is attached to the top of this case, as represented in fig. 1. A number of drawers, D', D, tc., is made as shown in the drawings. The piece forming the outer end of each drawer extends below the bottom, as shown by F, fig. 2. This extension F fits, when the drawer is closed, into a small recess formed by the holder-piece H, so that in closing the drawer it must be lifted slightly, then dropped,l so that F may fit in the recess formed by H. The piece i'orming the inner end of each drawer extends above the sides of the drawer, as represented by E E', tig.`2. When the drawer is pulled out its entire length the piece E or E comes in Contact with the side L of the case, ns shown in fig. 2, and thus prevents thc drawer from coming entirely detached from the case. K representsI one of the slides or guides upon which the drawers traverse.
The advantages that I claim for my invention are cheapness in construction and convenience. in use.
Having thus described my invention, I will now proceed' to set forth my claim.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is-
1. As a new article of. manufacture, a portable set of spice-drawers, made4 substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the extension F of the fro'ntcf the drawer with the holder H, for the purpose set forth.
3. The combination, as well as the arrangement, of the extension E of the piece forming the inner end of the drawer with the case or box A B, when the whole is made substantially as described and for the purpose set forth. W. E. ANDREWS.
