@te .ctehule mettrait in tlgese HittersV @that mit making que' uf it: sume.
To ALL wHoM 1T MAY ooNoERN;
Be it known that I, B. F. PEASLEE, of Lake Village, in the county of Belknap, and State of `New Hampshire, have inventedau improved Knitting-Machinc Needle; and I do hereby declare that the folloviing is a full and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specilicatin- Figure 1 being atop view 'of the latch of the needle.
Figurev2, a view vof the latch in perspective.
Figure 3, a view of the whole needle in perspective.
Like letters designate corresponding parts in all of the figures. A
My invention is an improvement in the latch needle, and consists in forming journals on the latch as apart of-jtl'xc same or permanently*- l-xed thereto These ournals a a are to be used in lace of the Ordinar rivet or ivot, which is inserted loosel throu h .l P y P Y g a holein the latch, and riveted in corresponding bearings in the sides of the needle. -Sueh rivets are very. liable to work loose, aud by projecting at one endtomake bad work in knitting, cr to work out and disengage the latch. But by my invention the journals a a being formed as a fixed part of or attached tixedly to the. latch A, there is no working loose, andjepuseq'ucntly -no liability whatever of injuring the work, nor of the needlcs getting out of repair, except by ordinary breaking. The journals a a are preferably stamped out of the metal of the latch itself in forming the same, but they may be inserted as a pin through the latch, and soldered or brazed therein or otherwise fixedly attachedthereto. The latch is inserted in the needle B, by spreading out the sides of the latch slot, which after the insertion spring in again and retain the latch in place.
What I claim as my iu-vention,`u`.nd desire to secure 'by Letters Patent, is l Forming fixed' journals a a, on the latch of the needle, substantially as and for the purpose herein specified.
The above specification of my improved knittinganachine needle signed by me this 10th day of November,
B. F. PEASLEE.
