Description

' @uitrit tartes 'atwt @fitta VICTOR GHARLET, or HOBOKEN. NEW JERSEY.
Letters Patent No.'67,267, dated July 30, 1867.
dige .Similis nimm tu in that items tant mit making tart tf the same;
TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
*Be it known that I, VICTOR CI'IRLET, of Hoboken, Hudsoncounty, New Jersey, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Buttons; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming partof this specification, in which- 1 Figure 1 represents a side view ofmyimproved button.
Figure 2 is a transverse section of the same, taken on the line :v x, g. 1.
Figure 3 is a botto-m view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to a. sliding button fastening by which alstud or button can be fastened in its place with great ease, so that it can never fall oi spontaneously, and so that it can be easily removed when desired.
The invention consists in the use of a. dove-tail sliding-bar, which is fitted into a corresponding groove, provided in the shank of the button, and which has a slot by which it receives suilcient spring to be pressed against thesides of the slot, and thereby to be heldin place. When to`be inserted the bar' is pulled out, so that it only projects from one side of the button, and when inserted it is moved back, so as to project from both sides of the same.
.A represents the button or stud, of suitable construction. B is its `shank, which is secured to the under side of the button by a'lat plate, C, or by two bars C', which, when in the button-hole, prevent-the'button from turning therein. In the face of the flat plate B is, 'at right angles with the plate C, a groove, which is either dove-tailed or so arranged that a plate, D, that slides in' the said groove, will be held therein, The plate D is slotted, so as 'to have spring enough that its sides be pressed against the sides of the groovevinthe shank B. A
knob, a, On the end of the plate D, serves as a. handle for pulling it into any desired position, and stops bb can be arranged 0n it to prevent it from being pulled altogether out kof the groove.
When the button is to be attached, the plate is pulled out as far as possible, so that only that end on which the' knob a is, will project from the plate B. The button is then easily inserted, so that the plate C will be in line with the button-hole within the same. When inserted, -the plate D is pulled so that both its ends project from the shank B, as shown in the drawing.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination of a. button or stud, A, with a grooved or slotted' shank, B, and sliding spring-platel),
all made and operating substantially as and for the purpose herein shown and described.`
v.VICTOR OHARLET.
