Description

PATBNTBD JUNE 6, 1854.
H L LIPMAN EYELET MACHINE.
UNITED sTATEs PATENT oEEIoE.
HYMEN L. LIPMAlLT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
EYELET-MACI-IINE.
, Specification of Letters Patent No. 11,027, dated June 6,1854.
To all 'whom t may concern.'
' Be it known that I, HYMEN L. LIPMAN, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Eyelet-Machine for Punching the Holes and Fastening the Eyelets with the Same Machine; and I do hereby declare the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1, is a front sectional View and Fig. 2, is a side sectional View.
A is the eccentric lever; B, the cutter or punch; C, the point or fastener; D, spiral springs.
In this machine, which is made of iron, the eccentric lever is so arranged, that by moving it to the right'and left, it is made to depress two pistons, to the end of one of which is attached a cutter or punch, and to the other a point for securing the eyelet, this arrangement enabling one by a movement of the lever to the left to cut or punch the hole, and by a movement to the right,
to secure or fasten the eyelet, thus greatly facilitating the operation, and securing a more compact, convenient and speedy mode of fastening eyelets than has hitherto been attained.
Having thus fully described the nat-ure of my invention I would state that I lay no claim to the devices herein described when taken separate, and uncombined, but
What I do claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The arrangement in one stock, of the double acting lever A, punch B, and fastener C, with their spiral springs D and counter dies, or anvil blocks, for the purpose of punching'lioles for, and setting eyelets in one machine as set forth, and this I claim when said lever actuates both punch and fastener, by allowing one to rise, whilst the other is being forced down, as represented.
Dated Philadelphia J une 4, 1853.
HYMEN L. LIPMAN.
