OTTO II. HUEBEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR, BY DIRECT AND MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO LEO FRANK, OF SAME ILAOE.
ADJUSTABLE CONNECTION.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 635,100, dated October 17, 1899. 7
Application filed April '7, 1894- Serial No. 506,734, (No model.)
To a, whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, OTTO H. HUEBEL, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings and State 5 of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Connections, (for which I have obtained a patent in Great Britain, No. 1,947, dated January 28, 1895,) of which the followingis a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive adjustable connection between different parts which are to be united-as, for instance, between two parts of a hook which is intended to fasten an article to another; and the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and combinations and arrangements of parts, as
hereinafter set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a perspective view of a soap-holder provided with a hook for fastening it to the edge of a bath-tub or other support, the said hook embodying my improvement. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same with one part of the hook detached. Fig. 3 is top view of the other part of the hook.
A designates a soap-holder, which may be of any suitable construction. As here shown, it consists of two bars a a a bent rod a having its ends inserted in the bar a and a number of wires inserted in the bar a bent in parallelism downwardly therefrom, then forwardly, and then upwardly to j oi n the front portion of the rod a There are also similar wires a which are fastened at both ends to the side portions of the rod (L This construction forms no part of my present improvement. Indeed, so far as my improve ment is concerned any article other than a soap-holder may be' used.
B designates two rods or wires which ar here shown as being fastened to the soapholder by being clamped between the bars a a thereof. They are bent upwardly and then horizontally rearward from the soapholder. They are provided with plates B, which are bent in U shape or trough shape and fastened to the horizontal portions of the rods, thus forming sockets which are open at the sides. As here shown, they embrace these portions of the rods and are fitted thereon so that the edges of each plate are opposite those of the other plate. In theupper part of each plate are notches h.
B designates two rods or wires. consisting of horizontal portions and vertical or transverse portions. The horizontal portions are of such a size as to be capable of entering the opposite longitudinal openings of the plates B. As here shown, these'rods or wires B are formed integral with an intermediate. piece B The rods or wires B are intended to be yielding relatively to each other, so that they may be made to yield relatively to each other in order to be capable of being passed between two plates B and afterward may be allowed to expand or move away from one another to enter the longitudinal openings of the two plates.
I have shown the rods or wires B as having pins 19 extending from their horizontal portions, and these pins are made of such a size as to engage with the notches in the plates B. By reason of this construction it is possible to disengage the rods B from the plates I) and readjust them lengthwise of said plates and afterward reengage them with the plates. In this example of my improvement provision is afforded for lengthening and shortening the hooks or hook, so as to adapt the same for embracing the edge of a bath-tub or any analogous structure regard less of what its width or thickness may be.
It will be seen that my improvement consists, essentially, of one part provided with sockets and another part having resilient portions capable of engaging with said sockets for lengthening any article by adjusting one of its parts relatively to another.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As an article of manufacture, an adjustable connection for brackets &c.,comprisin g arms, made in two sections, one section of each arm rigid and provided with a notched U-slmped plate, the other section having yielding arms adapted to enter the U-shaped plates and provided with pins which enter notches in 5 the U-shztped plates whereby to lock the sections together, substantially as set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
MICHAEL GRU, HYMAN NEUNAN.
