STATES Fries ATENT OTTO HENRY HUEBEL, OF NEIV YORK, N. Y;

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters latent No. 644,080, dated February 27, 1906. Application filed September 25,1897. Serial Noetaoso. (N0 model.)

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, 01 1130 HENRY IIUEBEL, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New York, (Brooklyn,) in the county of Kings, in the State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hangers for Sponge and Soap Holders, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to hangers or suspension-straps for sponge-holders and like articles.

The object is to provide a simple and inexpensive hanger one or both parts of which may be used in suspending the article, as will be hereinafter fully described. This object I attain by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective of a sponge and soap holder with my auxiliary suspension or attaching straps or arms removed. Fig. 2 is a sectional view with said straps or arms applied, the dotted lines showing how the straps may be bent for engaging the edge of a tub or other support. Fig. 3 is a detail view of one of the straps or arms. Figs. 4 and 5 are detail views showing modified forms of connections between the straps and ears on the holder.

The holder proper maybe of any desired construction; but the one illustrated comprises a horizontal oblong frame A, provided at one end with a depending soap-holder A and with a depending sponge-holder A for the remainder of its length.

The soap-holder A is formed by means of parallel wires a, extending in the direction of the length of the frame A, with their turned up ends soldered or otherwise firmly secured to the end frame-bar a and the straight crossor otherwise secured to the under sides of the front and rear longitudinal bars of the frame.

These ears B are each provided with upper I and lower stud-openings, the upper ones of which, Figs. 1 and 2, are in the form of keyhole-slots I), with their narrower ends up permost, while the lower openings are in the form of slots 5 These slots 1) b are adapted to receive suitable suspension studs, nails, or screws projecting from the wall; but where the wall is tiled and such studs, nails, or screws cannot be driven therein the flexible suspen sion-straps O 0 will be found most use ful, since they are capable of being bent into and of retaining any desired shape,- as shown in dotted lines. Thus these straps may be bent around the upper edge of a bath-tub or over the splasher-rail of a washstand, &c.

The flexible straps of Figs. 1, 2, and 3 are provided with an upper headed stud c and a lower upturned hook c to respectively enter and interlock with the keyhole-slots b and the lower straight slots 17 The holder may thus be removed from the straps at any time for cleansing, &c. The hooks c are formed by narrowing the lower extremities of the straps and bending them upwardly, as shown.

In Fig. 4 the ears B B are each provided with two vertically-alined keyhole-slots b, and the straps O C are each formed with two headed studs 0 c for engagement therewith.

In Fig. 5 the ears each have two straight slots 11 19 while the straps are each formed with two upwardly-projecting hooks c c, punched from the body of the straps.

The above-described holder is preferably formed entirely of brass heavily nickel-plated to prevent rust and present a neat and ornate appearance.

It will be understood that the wires or and a may be secured at right angles to their present positions and both series may extend in the same direction, if desired.

What I claim is 1. A hanger for suspending toilet-holders comprising a vertically-disposed ear having an aperture and provided therebelow with means for attaching it to the holder, and a fiat flexible strap havingastud or pin on the outer face of its lower end to interlock with said ear-aperture, and lie fiat therewith against the surface to which the holder is applied, and said strap being adapted, beyond the ear, to be bent over the edge of a tub or other support or passed behind a molding; the said ear being also adapted to be used Without the straps to engage a nail or pin projecting from a wall or other surface; substantially as described.

2. The combination with a holder of the character described provided on its rear side with vertically-projecting apertured ears to permit the holder to rest flat against a wall, tub, or other support, of fiat, flexible, vertical straps having studs or pins at their lower ends to interlock with said ear-apertures and adapted at their upper ends to be passed up behind a molding, or bent over or around a tub edge or other support; the said apertured ears being adapted to be used without the straps to suspend the holder from nails or pins projecting from a Wall or other surface, substantially as described.

8. The combination with a holder having ears provided with an upper keyhole-slot and a lower straight slot or opening, of the flexible suspension-straps each provided on its outer face near its lower end with a headed stud and formed therebelow with an upturned hook, said straps being adapted to be bent around or over any suitable support.

I OTTO HENRY HUEBEL.

Witnesses:

I. H. PITT, FRED W. MANGER.
