Description
PATENTED JUNE 14, 1904.
F. SGHAPFER. CURTAIN POLE. APPLICATION FILED p11. 21. 1904.
N0 MODEL.
UNITED STATES Patented June 14, 1904 PATENT OFFICE.
CURTA|N*POLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Letters Patent No. 762,659, dated June 14, 1904.
Application filed March 21, 1904.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that'I, FREDRicK SCHAFFER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at McKeesport, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Curtain- Poles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in curtain-poles, and relates more particularly to that class of poles wherein the use of rings and pins dispensed with.
The present invention has for its object the provision of novel means whereby a curtain may be securely attached to a pole and readily removed therefrom when desired; furthermore, to provide a pole that will be extremely simple in its construction, strong and durable, inexpensive to manufacture, and highly 1 efficient in its use.
WVith the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction and arrangement of parts hereinafterto be more specifically described and pointed out.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, wherein like numerals of reference indicate like parts throughout the several views. in which-" Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved curtain-pole. Fig. 2 is adetail view of one of the ends. Fig. 3 is a front view of my improved curtain-pole. Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical sectional view. Fig. 5 is a detail view of a bracket. Fig. 6 is a vertical sectional view of a modified form of pole. Fig. 7 is a front and rear view of the same partly broken away. Fig. 8 is a rear view of the modified form of my improved pole. Fig. 9 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 10 is an end View of the same. Fig. 11 is a perspective View of the modified form of my improved curtain-pole.
In the drawingsthe reference-numerals 1 and 2 indicate two sections of the pole, which sections may be semicircular or may be flat metal- $erialN0.199,120. (N0 model-l lic strips. These sectionsl and 2 have formed therein suitable openings through which bolts 3 extend, the ends of the bolts carrying nuts 4 for the purpose of securely fastening the sections of the pole together. Between the sections of the pole issecured the curtain 5. The end pieces, which may be of any suitable 'design, carry screw fitted shanks 7, adapted to engage in screw-threaded recesses formed in the end of the pole-sections. As shown in the modified form of my improved curtain-pole, the section 2 is of slightly greater width than the sectionl and has formed therein a dovetailed groove 8, which extends longitudinally in alinement with the section 2 and has seated therein a dovetail 9, carrying a hanger 10, the upper end of said hanger being formed into an eye 11 for the purpose of securing the same upon a hook 12, said dovetailed groove permitting an adjustment of the fastening means. The ends of the section preferably carry spear-shaped ends 14, which also may be of any suitable design.
The operation of myimproved curtain-pole is as follows: The nuts are removed from the bolts, thereby permitting the sections of the curtain-pole to be taken apart and the curtain suitably draped or secured therebetween. The bolts and nuts are then again placed in position, and the curtain-pole is then secured by means of the eyes 11 in the hooks 12.
The many advantages presented by my improved curtain-pole will be readily apparent from the foregoing description, taken in connection with the drawings.
It may be noted that various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the general spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. *A curtain-pole embodying two sections or strips placed face to face to hold a curtain therebetween, bolts passed through the strips and nuts on the bolts to hold said strips in clamping engagement with the curtain, one of said strips having a longitudinally-extendend pieces formed integral With one of said IO strips, all parts being arranged to operate,
substantially as described and set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in the presence of two wltnesses.
