Description

SKIRT AND WAIST HOLDER.
(Application mea ont. 1e, 189s.) (No Model.)
MW 'nl il" In Il HWI @i Ui 1 W H UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALMA A. POOL, OF WAUKESHA, VVISOONSIN.
SKIRT AND WAIST HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 631,380, dated August 22, 1899.
Application tiled October 19, 1898. Serial No. 694,029. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ALMA A. POOL, of Vtaukesha, in the county of Waukesha and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and u seful Improvement in Skirt and Waist Holders, of which the following is a description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are a part of this specification.
The object of my invention is to provide improved means especially adapted, being releasably attached to a corset, for supporting a skirt and incidentally holding it against moving around laterally and also for securin g and thereby holding the lower edge of a waist. in proper position.
The invention consists of the device, its parts and combinations of parts, as hereinafter described and claimed, or their equivalents.
In the drawings, Figure 1 shows my'improved device in connection with such clothing ordinarily worn by ladies as is necessary to illustrate the method of use of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of my improved device. Fig. 3 is a transverse section of my improved device in connection with fragments of clothing, also in section illustrating the use of the device: Fig. 4C is a detail of an eye employed in my device.
In the drawings, 6 is a belt of flexible material, preferably of non-elastic webbing, provided at one extremity with a buckle 7, adapted to receive andl releasably and adjustably secure the other extremity of the belt.
8 8 are two suspension-straps, also preferably of non-elastic webbing and conveniently of the same character of webbing as the belt 6. These straps 8 8 are located at a little distance apart, and each strap is secured at its lower extremity to the belt 6 by means of a button-stud 9, the neck of which stud passes through the belt 6 and the strap S, connecting them together, and the base of the stud is secured in place on the under side of the belt 6 conveniently by carrying the lower ends of the straps 8 around over the base of the stud on the inner side of the belt and sewing the straps and belt together. This construction is shown in Fig. 3; but the method of securing the stud to the strap 8 and the belt 6 is not essential. The studs are so secured to these straps and the belt that their heads project therefrom a sufficient distance to rebuckles 10.
ceive an eye over the head about the neck.
The straps 8 are each provided with a buckle 10, adjustable up and down thereon, the buckles being each provided with a hook 11. A wire eye 12, preferably made in the form shown in Fig. 4, consists of a body part having a laterally-elongated slot and a loop 13 extending at a right angle to the slot at one side thereof. Two of these eyes or fasteners are secured to the under surface of a skirt 14 near the top Waist edge of the skirt and near the slit or opening therein at the back.
In use the belt of my improved device is placed about a personat the waist and secured thereto by the buckle 7, and thereupon the hooks 11 are caught into eyelets in the corset 15, and the vertical Iheight of the belt is adjusted by means of thestraps 8 in the placed about the person, the eyes 12 are brought up to the stud-buttons 9 and the loops 13 are hooked on the stud-buttons. In this manner the skirt is secured in place and is held against settling down or lateral movement. If the person desires also to secure the lower edge of a waist 16 against movement upwardly or otherwise getting out of place, the lower edge of the waist is drawn down over the stud-buttons 9, and the eyes 12 are then brought up and looped over the studs, the material of the waist covering the heads of the studs and being encompassed and held in placed by the loops 13 bearing against the waist material about the necks of the studs.
What I claim as my invention is* A skirt and Waist holder, comprising abelt having means for securing its ends releasably to each other, a plurality of short suspension.- straps fastened at their lower ends at a distance apart to the belt approximately at its middle portion, hooks adjustable on the straps for securing them releasably and adjustably to a corset or analogous support, and studs securing the belt tothe straps at their junctions with the belt and projecting therefrom forming. means for attachingclothing thereto.
In-testimon y whereof1 l affix my signature vin presence of two witnesses. ALMA A. POOL.
