To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE E. SAVAGE, of Meriden, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented a new Improvement in Lemon-Squeezers; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this specification, and represent, in
Figure 1, a view, partly in side elevation and partly in section, of a lemon-squeezer constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2, a detached plan view of the supporting-ring; Fig. 3, a detached reverse plan view of the juice-cup; Fig. 4, a detached plan view of the compression-cone and juice-cup; Fig. 5, a sectional view showing the mode of swiveling the compression-cup upon the lower end of the plunger; Fig. 6, a view in transverse section on the line a b of Fig. 5.
Myinvention relates to an improvement in lemon-squeezers of the type which are adapted to be clamped upon a shelf or table and to be operated by the manipulation of a lever, the object being to produce a simple and effective device composed of few parts and adapted to be readily cleaned.
With these ends in view my invention consists of a lemon-squeezer having certain details of construction and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointedout in the claims.
In carrying out my invention as herein shown I employ a suitable cast-metal frame A, provided with a supporting-arm B and a clamping-arm C, both extending inward in the same direction, located one above the other, and sufficiently separated from each other'to receive the edge of a table or shelf between them. A clamping-screw D, mounted in the lower arm, provides for clamping the device upon the shelf or table. The said frame is formed with a vertically-arranged tubular bearing E for a plunger F, having its upper end slotted for the reception of the inner end of an operating-lever G,which is pivotally connected with the plunger by means of a pivot H, the said lever having its inner end bowed inwardly and formed with a slot I, receiving a pin J, mounted in the frame, with which the lever is thus connected. The lower end of the plunger is furnished with an inverted compression-cup K, having its inte- 5 5 rior surface furnished with ribs and provided with a handle L, the said compression-cup being swiveled upon the lower end of the plunger, to which it is so connected by means of a pin M. The handle L of the compressioncup provides for turning it after it has been crowded down upon the lemon, whereby the action of the device is made more perfect. This cup coacts with an externally-ribbed cone N, the external diameter of which corresponds in a general way to the internal diameter of the compression-cup. The lower ends of the ribs of this cone extend outward to form radial fingers O, the spaces between which receive logs or projections P, formed within the removable juice-cup Q, whereby the cone is held against rotation. The j nicecup Q is set down within a supporting-ring R, made integral with a vertically-arranged bearing S, by means of which the ring is secured to the lower portion of the frame by means of a screw T or equivalent instrumentality. The supporting-ring R is formed with an internal flange U, provided with three lugs V, entering into recesses W formed in the bottom of the juice-cup Q in the production of the upwardly-extending projections P before mentioned. By means of this construction the cone N is held against rotation within the juice-cup Q and the juice-cup Q isheld against rotation within the supporting-ring R, the cone being locked against rotation in any position in whichit may be entered into the juice-cup, for the reason that it is provided with a complete series of locking-spaces formed between its radial fingers O.
A rod secured to the extreme lower end of the frame in a vertical position supports a shelf 'or frame Y, upon which a tumbler or other vessel Z is placed for catching the juice flowing downward through the juiceecup Q and supporting-ring R.
It is apparent that in carrying out my invention some changes from the construction shown and described may be made, and I 100 would have it understood that I do not limit myself strictly thereto, but hold myself at liberty to make such variations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. In a lemon-squeezer, the combination with a frame adapted to be secured to a table or shelf, of a vertically movable plunger mounted in the said frame, an operating-lever connected with the upper end of the plunger, an inverted compression-cup applied to the lower end of the plunger, a supporting-ring formed independently of the frame and secured to the lower end thereof, a removable j nice-cu p located in the said ring in which it is held against rotation, and a non-rotatable, removable cone formed independently of and adapted to be located within the j nice-cup and provided with external ribs terminating at their lower ends in radial fingers which are employed for preventing the cone from rotation within the juice-cup which is provided with projections adapted to extend between the said radial fingers of the cone which is thus held against rotation within the cup.
2. In a lemon-squeezer, the combination with a frame adapted to be clamped upon a shelf or table, of a vertically-arranged plunger mounted in the said frame, an operatinglever connected with the upper end of the plunger, an inverted compression-cup swiveled upon the lower end of the plunger and provided upon its edge with a handle by means of which it is turned, a supportingring made independently of and secured to the lower end of the frame, a removable juicecup adapted to be set within the said ring in which it is held against rotation, and a removable cone formed independently of and adapted to be set within the said juice-cup and provided with external ribs, the lower ends of which terminate in radial fingers, the spaces between which receive projections formed within the bottom of the juice-cup, in which the cone is thus held against rotation.
