IMPROVED ROSETTE.

TO ALL WHOM IT MAY GONCERN:
Be it known that I, JOSIAH V. WALDRON, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a. new and improved Rosette; and I do hereby declare that the following is zt full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the seme, reference being had to the accom` panyiug drawings, Forming part of this specification.
The present invention relates to rosettes, so culled, more particularly such as nre used inthe trimming of harnesses of horses; und it consists principally in o novel Amanner of securing the velvet or other covering of the rosette to the same, uswill be hereinafter described, reference being had to the accompanying plete of drawings, in which- Figure 1 is n plan or top View of the rosette; and
Figure 2 o. central .vertical section.
A, in the drawings, represents the body or main portion of the rosette, which consists of n flat ring, B, having attached to it o. skelet-on shape or freine, C, formed by e series of wires, D, terminating nt their outer ends in ft.cap-riiig, E; the shape of the frame C being such as to stand out from the ring B in a, semi-globular or hemisphericztl forni, with an opening, F, between the several wires D constituting the seme. G, the covering,Y so celled, to the rosette, which covering is placed upon the inside of' its skeleton frame C, where it is secured by and through :t cup-shaped plate, H, upon its inside; this plate, H, being hanged around its edge et I, and being brought to bear -upon the velvet so as to firmly compress :tud hold the saine in place by means of a screw, J, screwed into such plate through its open end or cztpering E of the skeleton frame C of' the rosette. As the frame of the rosette is mede of a. skeleton shape, the velvet, when secured in or to it, es above described, is exposed at the openings of such freine, thus enhencing the beauty of, and, besides, imparting umueh better finish and appearance to, the rtsette; the manner of securing the velvet in place, as has been herein explained, enabling the velvet to be removed, if worn, and replaced with new, with Vbut little trouble and expense, und without injuring the body or main portion of the rosette. In lieu of velvet, cloth or leather muy be used, or nny other innterel which muy be suitable, and therefore I do not intend to lixnitlnysclf to the use of any particular kind ot' covering mate rinl, nor'to any one metal or other material of which the body of the rosette is to be composed oumnde, nor to any one particular shape or size of the same; the present invention consisting in the manner oi` securing the velvet or other covering in audito the rosette. In the drawings, a. series of ribbons or strenmers, 0, so called, :tre shown as secured to the rosette by the same screw which fustens the velvet covering in place.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination with the rosette frame of the inner cup-shaped plete H and screw J, or its equivalent, substantially as -ond for the purpose described.
The above specitication'of my invention signed by me this 8th da-y of October, 1866.
J. V. WALDRON.
