Description
No. 622,353. Patented Apr. 4, I899. S. C. HARRIS.
WAGON END BOARD ROD FASTENING.
(Application filed. July 27, 1898.) (No Model.)
C I 1 a B fl In J22 ventor mi'nedde Mmmw glfla/rm/ l NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL O. HARRIS, OF HELENA, OKLAHOMA TERRITORY.
WAGON-END-BOARD-ROD FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 622,353, dated April 4, 1899. Application filed July 27, 1898. Serial No. 687,000. (No model.)
To all whom it natty concern:
Be it known that L'SAMUEL O. HARRIs,a citizen of the United States, residing at Helena, in
the county of Woods and Territory of Oklahoma, have invented certain new and useful teners of wagon end-gates, and has for its special object to hold the cleats between which the end-gate slides, so that it will not work loose, so as to cut the side-boards of wagons .or to tear the threads of the cross-rod.
Figure 1 of the drawings is an elevation of the side-board of a wagon, looking from the inside; Fig. 2, an end elevation looking from the rear of the wagon-box, showing the endgate cross-rod and rod-fastener in position. Fig. 3 is a sectional side View of the fastener.
In the dra win gs,A represents the side-board of a wagon-box, provided with the metallic plate a, between Whose vertical parallel ribs a a the end-gate B slides up and down. The
two side-boards are held and prevented from spreading outwardly by the cross-rod O, which is usually held simply by an end nut. The cleats a are liable to work loose, which causes the threads of the rod to be jammed together or torn; This difficulty I overcome by means of my rod-fastener D, which consists of the tube (1, internally end-threaded at one end to receive the cross rod and externally endthreaded at the other to receive a tap-nut E, the tube D being made to pass-through the cleat a and the side-board A, while its tap nut E draws the sides together to the degree desired. d d are two plate-arms arranged on opposite sides of one end and provided with the teats (1 which fit corresponding apertures in the cleat a and prevent the fastener from turning. Having thus described all that is necessary to a full understanding of my invention, what I claim as new andof my invention is- A'fastener D for the end gate rod of a wagon, consisting of a tube externally threaded at one end and internally threaded at the other, one end being also provided with platearms having teats under the ends; whereby it may be used substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
SAMUEL O. HARRIS. Witnesses:
JOHN NooK, AcE BARTLETT.
