watch-stem embodying my invention.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAHAM M. YEAKEL, OF PERKASIE, PENNSYLVANIA.
WATCHCASE-PEN DANT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 621,887, dated March 28, 1899. Application filed May 25, 1898. Serial No- 681,'704. (N0 model.)
To ftZZwhoml it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM M. YEAKEL, a citizen of the United States, residing at Perkasic, in the countyof Bucks, State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in atch-Stems, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings.
My invention consists of a watch stem or arbor which is adapted to be adjusted relatively to the lifting-spring and the winding mechanism and to retain its adjustment, adapting also the length of said stem to be ad justed relatively to the crown, the novel features beinghereinafterdescribed, and pointed out in the claim that follows the specification.
Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section thereof, in-
cluding a stem, crown, and lifting-spring.
Fig. 3 represents a section or portion ofanother form of stem that may be employed.
Similar letters of reference indicate corre sponding parts in the figures.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the pendant-stem or winding-bar of a watch; B, the pendant; O, the crown; D, the spring of the cap, and H the screw, which is passed lat.- crally through the pendant into the interior thereof.
E designates a loose collar on the stem A below the screw H in abutment with the latter.
G designates a shoulder in the base of the pendant, the lower portion of said stem A passing through said shoulder. Interposed between said shoulder G and the collar E and abutting thereagainst is the spring K, whose tendency is to elevate said collar and hold it at all times against the screw H regardless. of the movement-of the stem, and thus rattling of the latter and of the connected parts is prevented.
When the adjustment of parts is effected, should a portion of the stem above the screw ll be too long it may be clipped or cut off. to the desired extent, so that the crown C occupies the proper position on the pendant without requiring the disarrangement or further manipulation of the nuts to effect the adj ustment of said crown.
In Fig. 3 the stem is shown as a female when such is required in lieu of the form of the other figures.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a device of the character stated, a crown, a stem, a pendant, a shoulder in the base of said pendant through which said stem passes, and a screw laterally entering said pendant above said shoulder, in combination with a collar loosely mounted on said stem below said screw, and a spring interposed between said shoulder and collar adapted to constantly press the latter upwardly against said screw.
