UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. DE GROAT, OF PIERMONT, NEYV YORK, AND HUGO HENNING, OF HOBOKEN, NEW JERSEY.
MOP-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 619,547, dated February 14, 1899.
Application filed January 21,1897. Serial No. 620,021. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Beit known that we, GEORGE E. DE GROAT, of Piermont, in the county of Rockland and State of New York, and HUGO I-IENNING, of Hoboken, in the county of Hudson and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and Improved Mop-Holder, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of our invention is a mop-holder of simple construction, readily portable for shipping, and adapted for quick and easy application to the handle and the mop when it is to be put into use.
The object is to make mop-holders portable, so that the same may be shipped in large quantities and in small bulk to adapt the same to be cheaply and readily transported to the place of retailing, and at the same time to provide a mop-holder which" is readily put into use by the purchaser and will be efficient for the purposes intended. To that end we provide a threaded and flanged socket having a threaded cylindrical part adapted for ready application to an ordinary handle and a flanged base or collar perforated at opposite form, is provided with a screwthread, as shown at 2, to adapt it for application to a common handle or holder 3 and at its base with a flange or collar 4 5, consisting of a horizontal or radial collar 4 and a flaring peripheral flange 5, within which the material of the mop 6 is drawn and secured for use.
In order to secure the mop Within the flanged holder, as stated, we provide at opposite points in the horizontal or radial collar 4 perforations 7, in which is inserted a wire 8, of flexible material, preferably copper, which is 'in one piece extending one-half way around the socket and downward through the opposite perforations 7, its free ends being then drawn tightly across and twisted around the material of the mop 6; The socket, formed in one piece of the parts 1 2 4 5, is readily spun out of sheet metal.
Having described our invention, the followingis what we claim as new therein and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A mop-holder comprising a socket having a threaded cylindrical part, adapted for ready application to an ordinary handle, and a radial collar, having perforations at opposite points and a peripheral flange, and a wire extending one-half way around the cylindrical part, supported on the collar, and having its ends extending through the opposite perf0ra tions so as to embrace the mop material; substantially as described.
