CHARLES IV. WOODS, OF COWEN, WEST VIRGINIA.
PAINT-I-BRUSH HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 653,051, dated July 3, 1900. Application fil d June 9, 1899. Renewed April 26, 1900. Serial No. 14,501. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES WILLIAM WOODS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oowen, in the county of Webster and State of West Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Paint-Brush Holders; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to improvements in paint-brush holders, and more particularly to that class which are detachably secured to the paint-bucket and are adapted to support the brush in an upright position; and the object is to provide a simple, inexpensive, and convenient device of this character.
To this end the invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of the device, as will be hereinafter more fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawings the same reference characters indicate the same parts of the device in both figures.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved paint-brush holder as it appears in use. Fig. 2 is a Vertical transverse section through the clamp.
A denotes a rectangular block or piece of wood, to which is fixed a helix or spiral coil of spring-wire B, the contiguous parallel coils of which are adapted to grasp and support the brush-handle in an upright position, as shown.
C denotes a strap-bracket made of spring sheet metal and encompassing the block A with its shorter arm a, formed with a curved lug c to snugly encompass the bead d on the rim of the paint-bucket D. The longer arm of said bracket terminates in a clamp-finger 0 which extends a short distance downthe outside of the bucket and acts as a brace to hold the bracket properin place. The shorter arm 0 of the bracket is formed with parallel ears c 0 in which isfulcrumed a spring-actuated thumb-clip E, the depending finger e of which extends down inside of the bucket to clamp the wall of the bucket against the outside finger 0 The device is very simple in construction and convenient and effective in operation. It can be readily removed from one bucket and instantly attached to another one, and when adjusted to position is adapted to support a number of brushes in posit-ion.
The accompanying drawings show my inyention in the best form now known to me 5 but many changes in the details might be made within the skill of a good mechanic without departing from the spirit of my invention as set forth in the claim at the end of this specification.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-
In combination, the block, A, the helical spring-wire coil, B, fixed to said block, the
spring sheet-metal bracket, 0, encompassing said block A and having its shorter arm, 0, formed with the ears, 0 c and terminating in the curved lug, c, and its longer arm in the finger, c and the spring-actuated clip,
E, fulcrumed in said ears and terminating in the depending finger,e,substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
