Description

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHH R. PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP 3.
BERNARD P. ARNEST, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
PAINT-BRUSH HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Jain., 26, iltltit,
Application filed October 35, 1913,. Serial No. 797,261.
To all whom it may concern) Be it known that I, BERNARD P. ARNEs'r, a citizen of 'the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, liave invented certain new and useful Iinprovements in Paint-Brush Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to paint brush holders, the object of the invention being to provide a device by which a paint. brush may be suspended from the rim of a paint bucket, so as to keep the brush bristles immersed in the paint, whereby the paint upon the bristles may be kept from drying out and the bristles maintained in good order.
A further object of the invention is to.
provide a holder of'the character described which may be inexpensively manufactured from a single piece of spring wire, and which is adapted for holding either flat or round handled brushes, while permitting adjustment of the brush as occasion requires according to the level of the paint to submerge the bristles to the proper extent.
The invention consists of a device embodying the features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, ni whichz- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a paint bucket showinga brush suspended therein by my improved holder, a portion of the bucket being broken away for clearer illustration; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the brush holder detached.
In carrying niy invention into practice I provide a paint brush holder preferably formed from a single piece of Wire, the ends of the Wire being longitudinally curved for a portion of their length, as shown at 1, and thence curved or inclined toward each other in convergent relation to provide clamping jaws'2, terminating in inwardly inclined back-turned or hook-shaped bearing members 3 which increase their extent of clamping surfaces. The central portion of the wire is formed to provide a double coiled spring clasp 41, which is disposed at right angles to the arms 1 so as to occupy a substantially vertical position when the device is in usa.
In employing the device for supporting a paint brush within a paint bucket or receptacle 5, the coil 4 is slipped down over the rim edge of the bucket, thereby clampupon the bristles will be kept from drying V out and the bristles maintained in good condition. When the brush is thus supported the handle 6 will project so that it may be conveniently grasped and the brush may accordingly be conveniently removed for use at any time.
It will be apparent, of course, that the coil 4 forms a spring clasp which allows the holder to be vertically adjusted to immerse the brush bristles to the desired extent as occasion may require, according to the depth of the bucket and the level of the paint. The spring jaws also permit the brush to be adjusted for the same purpose,- and are adapted to engage the handles of round and fiat liandled brushes with equal efiiciency.
The device is simple in construction, may be manufactured and sold at a low cost, and its utility and conveniences are manifest.
Having thus described my invention, li claim:
1. A paint brush holder comprising a length of spring Wire bent to form a vertioally disposed coil presenting clamping elements'and adapted to engage the wall of a paint bucket, spring arms cxtending outwardly at right angles from said coil, to project horizontally into the bucket, and clamping jaws at the extremities of said arms normally held closed by the action of he arms and adapted to be"spread thereby to receive and clamp the handle of a paint brush.
2. A paint brush holder comprising a length of wire bent to provide a spirally formed clamp presenting clamping convolutions to engage the wall of a paint bucket,
spring arms extending at right angles from In testimony whereof I aifix my signature said (lzon'ohitions to project horizontally in presence of two witnesses.
into t1e uc (et, and clam ino' jaws at the extrer'nities of said armsp nrmally held BERNARD P' ARNEST' closed thereby and adapted to be spread by Witnesses:
pressure upon the arms to admit andgrip L. B. HUNGERFORD,
the handle of a paint brush. L. F. NEEL.
