To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that 1, Mrs. BEATRICE THORNTON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sacramento,' in the county of Sacramento and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Spoon-Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to spoon holders and the primary object of the invention is to provide an improved spoon holder or clip for engaging the sides of a cooking utensil, glass, dishes or the like and thus hold the spoon from slipping down into th contents of the receptacle. Another object of the invention is to provide a spoon holder comprising a U-shaped body member having spring clips formed on the outer ends of its legs for engaging a vessel and thus provide a relatively wide base ortion and a spoon engaging clip carried y the bight or central portion of the body. A still further object of the invention is to provide a spoon holder of the above charv acter, which is durable and eflicient in use, one that is simple and easy to construct, and one that can be placed upon' the market at a reasonable, price.

With these and other objects in view the invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and formation of parts, as will .be hereinafter more fully descrlbed, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part thereof, in which Figure 1 is the side elevation of the improved spoon holder attached to a receptacle and holding a spoon,

Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein similar reference numeralsdesignate corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 1 generally indicates the improved spoon holder which is adapted to be positioned on any type of vessel 2.

The improved spoon holder 1 is formed of a single, piece of. sheet metal and includes a substantially U-shaped body or supporting member 2, the free ends of the legs. 3 of which are bent to form spring attaching clips 4. The free ends of the legs 3 are bent back upon themselves as at 5 and then downwardly and spaced at parallel relation to the legs as at 6 which forms the spring clip. The free ends of the clip are bent upwardly as at 7 to present a dull edge and thus eliminate the possibility of anyone cutting themselves on the sharp surface. Extending upwardly from the central portion of the U-shaped member 2 is the spoon supporting member 8 which is bent transversely to provide a strengthening rib 9 and the support is bent upwardly and rearwardly as at 10 to provide an inclined support for the spoon 11.

Formed at the upper end of'the central support 8 on the side edges thereof are tongues 12 which are coiled inwardly toward each other to provide spring members which are adapted to engage the handle of the spoon.

In operation of the improved device the spring clips 4 are placed upon the edge-of the receptacle and the handle of a spoon is sprung in between the rows of the spring tongues 12 which holds the same against displacement. The clips 4 formed on the ends of the U-shaped member are spaced from each other which provides a relatively wide gripping surface which prevents the displacement of the spoon holder from the receptacle.

In practice, I have found that the form of my invention, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and referred to in the above description, as the preferred embodiments, is the mostnefllcient and practical; yet realizing the conditions concurrent with the adoption of my device will necessarily vary, I desire to emphasize the fact that various minor changes in details of construction, proportion and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, when required, without sacrificing any of the advantages of my invention as set forth.

What I claim as new is A spoon holder comprising a substantially U-shaped member, having its free ends bent to form spring clips, a central support formed on the upper edge of the U-shaped member, said support being bent 10 angularly in relation to the Ushaped member and bent to form a central strengthening rib, and spring tongues formed on the side edges of the central support, as and for the purpose specified.
