P. ROSENBLATT, 0F GREENVILLE, TENNESSEE.` Letters .Patent No. 61,874, elated February 5, 1867.
IMPROVBD DOOR AND WINDOW-SASH FASTENER.
TO ALL WHOM 1T MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, P. RosENBLATr, of Greenville, in the county of Greene, State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improved Fastener for Door and Window Sashes; and Ido hereby declare thatA the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled iu the art to make and use thevsame, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification.V
The present invention relates to a new andv improved fastener for doors and windows, more especially, which fastener is exceedingly cheap to manufacture, simple in construction, and very eiicient and reliable in operation,
as will be obvious from the following detail description of the same In the accompanying drawings-` Figure 1 is a perspective view of the fastener.
Figure 2, a view showing it as applied to a door; and
Figure 3, a view showing it as applied to a window sash.
Similar letter of reference indicate like parts.
A, in the drawings, represents my improved fastener, embraced iu the present invention, which is made of a narrow plate or bar, B, of metal or other snitable material, tapering in thickness and coming'to a sharp edge at one end, C, and at the other provided with a series of sharp prongs or teeth, a, thatpr'oject out therefrom in a direction at right angles, or nearly so. D, a handle or knob secured to the end of the plate B, where provided with prongs, a, but upon the opposite side thereto, the object of which handle is to enable the fastener to be easily removed or withdrawn from the sash or door, according to which it is applied.
In using my improved fastener for a window sash, it is inserted by its tapering end in and between the sash and the window frame, as plainly shown in tig. 3, with its prongs or teeth a toward the window frame, when slightly inserting the said teeth in such window frame, it is plaintobe seen thatin an attempt'to raise the sash frame my fastener will necessarily prevent it, which, to more fully insure, I provide the side ofthe plate B, 'which comes in contact with the sash frame whenrused as a fastener thereto, with a series of corrugations, c, extending in thedirection of itslength, by the sharp edges, d, of which Ait is made tobe more firmly und fast. When my improved fastener is used for a door, it is placedby its tapering end under thedoor, between it and the sill, and in the position shown in iig. 2, with its teeth or prongs ainserted or embedded in the sill, whereby, as is obvious, it is rendered impossible to open the door; the fastener, in both the case of the window sash and door, being easilyvrcmoved by means of its handle or knob D. Y Although I have herein described my invention as a fastener for a window sash, it may be employed to advantage as a supporter thereto, as is obvious without any further or'more particular explanation. i
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The fastener A, consisting of a plate or bar B, tapering in thickness at one end, and'at the other provided with a series of teeth or prongs a, substantially as described for the purposes specified.
I'also claim the corrugations c, of the fastener plate B, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
The above specification of my invention signed by me this 14th day of July, 1866.
1?.- ROSENBLATT.
