IMPROVED DOOR-STOPS.

Be it known that we, TnoMAs'HAzARD, and JONATHAN M. RIcHiiRDsoN, both of Wilmington, Clinton county, Ohio, have inventedva, new Aand usefulHAnti-Slam'mer; and we dov hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description-thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings making part of this specification.

This invention relates to a device adapted for ready insertion Vin the jamb or surbase of a door or the sill of a window, to soften the shocks and jars incident to theiruse.'

A is a metallic case of cylindrical yform, adapted to receive a pad or cushion B, of gum elastic or India rubber, and to be-inserted in a circular hole or cavity prepared for'itin the jamb orsurbase of a door, or'in the sill of a window. This cavity may be formed by means of anordinary centre-bit, and should be of such sizeas to hold the case tightly, on thelatter being simply driven into it. For additional'seeurity, the oase may be dipped in glue or Sheller: just'before insertion. ,A rim or iiange C, around the external margin of the case, servesito strengthen the same so as to. enable 'it to receive the blow's of a. mallet in the actoi` insertion, and also alibi-ds a bearing foxthe point of a pry o r other instrumentwhen its extraction may be desired. The rubber may be secured` in its case either by the prov-ision'of a heador swell, D, at its inner end, which engages behind the corresponding end of the case, or by' means of a shoulder, E, which bears against anoiset, F, that projectsV internally from the case.-

We are aware that Indiafru'bber cushions have before been applied to door-stops in -a variety of ways, and therefore do not claim the'insertion of hollow or solid India rubber, or similar material, in holes bored' in the door or jamb; but, by our invention, the rubber is protected bythe metallic case, is easy.' of application for `the purpose designed, and can be more readily'removed when necessary; our invention, asherein described, being an improvement upon A. Eleiaers patent for Elastic Studs and Buttons for Doors and Windows, Janualy 24, 1865.
