STORM-DOOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FREDERICK A. SGHURE- MAN, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, county of Kings, and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Storm-Door, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to storm doors, my more particular purpose being to provide a type of storm door suitable for general use, yet especially adapted for narrow entrances, and also being to a certain extent convertible, so as to serve in some instances as an ordinary door adapted to open and close.
My invention further contemplates certain advantageous changes in the construction of storm doors.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a view partly in perspective and partly in section, showing my improved storm door complete, including the outer stationary member or casing and the inner revoluble member or cylinder, together with various parts associated with the inner and outer members; Fig. 2 is a horizontal section upon the line 22 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrow and showing the outer casing and the cylinder disposed therein and concentric thereto, this view further showing how the cylinder is provided with a door which may be opened and closed after the manner of an ordinary door, the cylinder for this purpose remaining stationary; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective showing one of the handles I use for turning the cylinder.
Two cylindrical segments 4, are each provided with forwardly projecting weatherstrips 5 made of resilient material, preferably rubber or leather. These cylindrical segments rest directly upon the floor and are secured thereto by aid of fastenings 4 A top 6 is mounted upon the cylindrical segments 4 and connects the same, this top having substantially the form ofa cap. Resting upon the upper edge of this bearing 9 are balls 10, and these are engaged by a disk 11, the latter being threaded and mounted upon the pivot pin 7 so as to turn therewith. A pair of cylindrical segments 13 is con? nected bya cap 12, and a door 14 having also substantially the form of a cylindrical se 'ment is, by aid of hinges 15, mounted upon one of the cylindrical segments 13, as will be understood from Fig. 2. The door 14 is provided with a handle 16 and one of the segments 13, with a handle 17.
A sliding bolt and lock 18 is mounted in brackets 19, carried by the door 14, and is used for the purpose of securing this door, and consequently the cylindrical segment 13, rigidly in the respective positions indicated in Fig. 1. Latches 20 are used for the purpose of securing the door 14 relatively to one of the cylindrical segments 13, as will be understood from Fig. 2. Handles 21, each integral with a plate 22, are mounted upon the cylindrical segments and convex side of the door 14, and sunken thereinto by aid of depression 21', as will be understood from Fig. 3.
The cylindrical segments 13, door 14 and dome 12 together constitute the revoluble member of the storm door. Since, however,
the door 14 is adapted to swing upon the hinges 15, this door may be simply opened and closed after the manner of any other door, the revoluble member remaining for the time being stationary, as indicated by full and dotted lines in Fig. 2.
The handles 17, 21, are employed for turning the revoluble member of the storm door, the handle 17 being used by any person within the revoluble member and the handle 21 being employed by any person standing without said revoluble member.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
