\ Letters Patent No. 61,807, dated February 5,1867. I
IMPROVEMENT IN NEGK-YOKB TBUNDIE.
TO ALL WHOM IT'MAY CONCERN;
Be it known-thatI, A. H. COLE, of Sylvania, Lucas county, State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful improvementin Neck-Yoke Trundles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, andexact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accoinpanyingdrawings, forming part of this specification, in which Figure lis a longitudinal section of my improved neck-yokevtrundle, taken through the'line a: a fig. 3, and showing the breast strap attached thereto.
w Figure'2 isian inside view of the same, with a section of the strap, taken through the line 3/ y, fig. 1.
Figure 3 is a cross-section of the same, taken through the line 2 z, fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts.
My invention has for its object to furnish an apparatus by means of which the breast strap of harness may he preservedfrom being so quickly worn out by the friction of the neck-yoke rings. And it consists of a neck-yoke trlindle, formed by combining two rollers with the notched frame of thetrundle, the whole being constructed and arranged as hereinafter more fully described.
A is the frame of the trundle, which is made with a deep notch, B, for the reception of the neck-yoke ring. On each side of the notch B, in slots formed in the frame A, are placed rollers, C, which roll along the strap D, as the wagon-tongue moves fromside to side, and thus substitutes the friction of the rollers C 'for the sliding friction of the nech-yoke'ring. The strap D passes around the rollers C within the slots formed in the frame A, and is kept in place by the end bars, a, of said frame. The ends of the strap D are attached to the hame-rings in the ordinary manner. This trundle may be used with equal advantage when pole-straps or polechains are used instead of a neck-yoke, as is usually the case with light wagons or carriages.
.It should be observed that the sides of the notch B should be of 'sufiicient height to prevent the neck-yoke ring from being thrown out of the said notch by the thrashing about of thewagon-to'ngue. It should also be observed that the rods which form the shafts upon which the rollers C revolve, should be of suflicient strength, and should be so firmly attachedlto the frame A, as to sustain whatever pressure may be applied to it in holding back the wagon. By this arrangement, the rapid wear of the breast strap, D, by the friction of the neck yoke ring is prevented; and the consequent danger from the accidental breaking of the weakened strap is effectually guarded against.
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent-- An improved neck-yoke trundle, formed by combining the two rollers C with the notched frame A'B, the whole being constructed and arranged substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
- A. H. COLE.
