lhyiTEn STATES PATENT OEETEET DANIEL HUNT, OF VAN BUREN, ARKANSAS.
MOVABLE COMBINATION COUNTER AND SHELVING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 617,021, dated January 3, 1899.
Application filed May 7,1898. Serial No. 680,032. (No model.)
T 0 it whom. it may concern.-
Be it known that I, DANIEL HUNT, a citizen of the United States, residing at Van Buren, in the countyof Crawford and State of Arkansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Movable Combination Counters and Shelvings; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
My invention consists of movable combination counters and shelvings; and it consists of counters with bins adapted to hold groceries, fruits, &c., on their front sides and means for storing duplicates of the same in their rear sides, and shelvings adapted to rest on said counters and to be secured to the same by hooks and eyes or suitable means, said counters and shelvings set on casters, so that they, with their contents, may be quickly and easily rolled out of the storehouse in case of fire or high water.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of my counter. Fig. 2 is a rear elevation. Fig. 3 is a cross-section of Fig. 1 on the line 3 3. Fig. 4 is a cross-seotion of Fig. 1 on the line 4 4. Fig. 5 is a front elevation of part of my counter with the shelvings mounted thereon, secured to the counter, to each other, and the wall of the building.
My invention is described as follows:
1 is the top slab of my counter.
2 are the legs.
3 are the casters.
4 are the grocery-bins, secured to the front face of the counter and running back to a partition-wall 5 in the center of the counter, which wall extends along the center of the counter the full length of the grocery-bins whether there be one grocery-bin, two, three, or more. These bins 4 are provided with lids 6. For the same length of these bins and the partition 5 the rear partof the counter is left open, forming a depository 7, in which may be stored groceries, duplicating the groceries stored in the front bins.
In the said counter are also fruit-bins 8,
having open wire fronts 9 and are set on rollers. These bins are of open slatwork 10, the rear posts 11 of which work on the inside of the counter and are provided with rollers 12, which run on the floorlS of the counter, while their front posts 14 are provided with casters 15 and run on the floor of the building. The upper ends of the posts 11 reach to the lower face of the slab 1 and coming against the sill 11-],- prevent the bin from being drawn e11- tirely out except by carefully raising the legs 14 and drawing out the lower ends of the posts 11, that work on the rollers 12.
Hinged to the rear face of the counter, adapted to be locked in a vertical position and the full length of the row of fruit-bins, is a shelf 16, set on casters 17 and adapted to close the rear openings of the counter. On this shelf, when down, may be stored fruits, groceries, and such like articles as are stored in the open bins in front.
These counters are made no heavier nor longer than is necessary, the object being that any one of them, with their contents, may be run out of the store by one man. They are preferably made about eight feet long, but may be made longer or shorter, as many being used as is necessary to supply the store, and a counter may be supplied entirely with grocery-bins and rear depository or entirely with fruit-bins and rear hinged shelf; but they are preferably made as shown in the drawings-part grocery and part fruit bins.
Fig. 5 shows my shelvings mounted on one of my counters, half of the counter, however, being broken away.
When I use my counter for my slielvings and set it against the wall, I may and generally do first remove the hinged shelf 16, and I may and sometimes do remove the grocery and fruit bins, but it is not absolutely necessary to do so.
My shelvings 18 are mounted on rollers 19 and are secured together and to the counter and to the Wall by hooks and eyes 20. Each piece of my shelvings is made small and light enough, so that one man may unhook it and run it out of the building.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In movable counters and shelvings, the
1 a the rear openings of the counter; said counter adapted to carry other bins, 4, and to have secured to it shelvings, 18, substantially as shown and described for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature I 5 in presence of two witnesses.
