Description
J. H. FRANKLIN.
SHOW CASE ATTACHMENT. APPLICATION FILED MAY II. 19H].

I 4* 2 I C I 3L I JAMES H. FRANKLIN, OF KEOKUK, IOWA.
SHOW-CASE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 9, 1919.
Application filed May 11, 1918. Serial No. 233,877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES H. FRANKLIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Keokuk, in the county of Lee and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Show-Case Attachments, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in show-cases and more particularly to the bottom slide. The object, as the term implies, is to provide a sliding show-case shelf in the nature of a false bottom mounted on rollers, which operate on a fixed bar or rail, whereby it may be slid in and out with facility for the purpose of placing any article thereon, or removing it without incurring the danger of disarranging the display, and at a great saving of time, it having especial utility for cigar-show-cases, where the at tendant behind the counter is continually called upon by difierent customers to reach in and remove a box or handful of cigars in catering to the caprices of the various customers.
In the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 is a view in end elevation of my show-case attachment with parts broken out.
Fig. 2 is a side view; and
Fig. 3 is a plan.
A, represents the true bottom of an ordinary show-case, and B is the false bottom or shelf, upon which the articles displayed are adapted to be placed.
Mounted on the outer bottom are the angle-iron plates 1, 1, in pairs, of which there may be one or two, according to the size of the false bottom or shelf B.
Mounted to turn on pins 2 secured in these angle-iron plates are the rollers 3, of which there may be several, for instance three, as illustrated, although there might, of course, be even more or less of these.
A slide 4: is secured on the under side of the false bottom, with overhanging edges which slidably embrace the outturned flanges of the angle-irons 1, 1, as clearly illus trated in Fig. 1, this form of construction confining the movement of the false bottom to a straight endwise movement, and absolutely preventing its jumping the track, although admitting of the false bottom or shelf being withdrawn altogether from the show-case, if desired.
The immense value of this device is readily understood, as it makes it convenient to slide the false bottom and shelf in and out at will, so that the articles supported thereon at the remotest point may be quickly brought within reach of the clerk, without the inconvenience of reaching over the articles between the attendant and the one selected, thus avoiding disturbance to the display in the show-case.
In this way is provided a simple, inexpensive construction, which may be applied tov any show-case now on the market at very slight cost.
I claim:
A show-case attachment comprising a bottom having angle-iron plates erected thereon in pairs with outwardly-extending flanges at their tops and anti-friction rollers there between, a false bottom having slides on the under side thereof which rest upon the antifriction rollers at their centers, and provided with overhanging edges which slidably embrace the outturned flanges of the angle-irons, thereby admitting of free movement of the false bottom and preventing the latter from jumping the track.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JAMES H. FRANKLIN.
