UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ERASTUS G. BURGET'I, OF WABASH, INDIANA.
KITCHEN-CABINET.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 331,611, dated December 1, 1885.
Application filed July 28, 1885. Serial No. 172,905. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ERASTUS G. BURGETT, a citizen of the United States, residing at NVabash, in the county of Wabash and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in .Kitchen Cabinets, of which the following is a specification, to wit:
This invention relates to an improvement in kitchen-cabinets; and it consists in certain peculiarities of the construction and ar rangement of the same, substantially as will be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the accompanying drawings, in which-- Figures 1 and 2 are vertical sections of the device, showing the adjustable bin in two positions, and Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the same, showing one bin removed.
A represents the main frame of a kitchencabinet or other device for the storage of flour and other material. the main frame is divided into two or more across its lower end with a round bar, B,
' and in each compartment is placed a bin or receptacle, B. This receptacle is sometimes a bin having four sides and a bottom, as in Figs. 1 and 2 ,and sometimes asimple skeleton frame, consisting of a front and bottom,.for the reception of a flour-barrel or other similar article. In either case it is provided on its under side with a couple of cross-bars, b, in which are formed recesses or half-round bearings b, to engage and turn upon the round bar B, which forms a bearing for the proper operation of the receptacle. The lower forward corners of the receptacle are provided with small wheels or casters b", as represented in the drawings, and the upper side of the receptacle is near its rear edge formed with a notch, 0, to engage a pawl, 0, which is pivoted upon the main frame and rests upon the upper edge of the bin, as in Figs. 1 and 2.
The lower art of Over the bins B the main frame of the cabinet is provided with a table, 0, for the reception of any work in progress, and above this the frame is provided with a hinged shelf, D, which folds up against the back of the device, or when lowered rests upon pins or supporting-lugs d. The frame is also provided with a tilting receptacle, D, to hold spices and other articles.
In operation flour, meal, 850., are placed in the receptacle B, and when Wanted for use it is tipped forward till caught by the pawl and held. When tipped back again past the center of gravity,it closes of its own. weight, and excludes dust and insects, this motion being free, as the whole device is supported and turns upon the round bar B, as shown.
When it is desired to empty or fill the bins at a point at a distance from the point of storage, the bin or receptacleis tipped forward, the pawl lifted, and the forward edge allowed to rest upon the floor, and the whole device and its contents are readily drawn off upon the casters to any desired point. This is especially convenient when a skeleton frame is used to hold a barrel, and it is handled with ease and rapidity.
The tilting receptacle as herein described is of especial value when arranged beneath the counters or shelving of stores, which is 'donein exactly the same way herein described.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a kitchen-cabinet, the combination of the main frame A, provided with the pawl O and bar B, ofthe removable bin B, provided with cross-bars b, having recesses 12 and rollers 12 at the lower forward corners, and notch a, all constructed and arranged substantially as shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ERASTUS G. BURGETT.
