WILLIAM IIAAS, OF LYNDON, KANSAS.
sT'ovEPlPE-SHELF.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 616,788, dated December 27, 1898.
Application filed March 13, 1897. Renewed August 27, 1898. Serial No. 689,702. (N0 model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM HAAS, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Lyndon, in the countyof Osage and State of Kansas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stovepipe-Shelves; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this speciiication.
This invention relates to stovepipe-shelves.
The object is to provide a shelf that may be firmly secured in position upon a stovepipe of any shape in cross-section, which may be readily adjusted vertically, so as to bring it to any desired proximity to the stove, and which will combine efficiency and durability of production.
The invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts of a stovepipe-shelf, as will be hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts, Figure lis a view in plan, displaying the shelf as it appears when attached to a` pipe and ready for use. Fig. 2 is a view in sectional elevation, taken on the line 2 2 of Fig. l, showing the shelf attached to the pipe. Fig. 3 is a perspective detail view of a portion of the shelf, displaying more particularly the clamping-ring and the plates in engagement therewith.
Referring to the drawings, A designates the.
rim of the shelf, the saine comprising two semicircular sections a, made, preferably, of wire and having their ends bent inward t0- ward each otherto form arms d2 and then at right angles to constitute toes a3 for engaging a clamping-ring B. Secured to each of these sections a, preferably by having their outer ends bent around them, is aseries of radially-disposed su pportin g-plates a4, provided with longitudinal slots d5 and with toes a6, also for engaging the ring B, the latter being made, in this instance, in two sections,`
' corresponding to the number of plates over which they cross, the slots d and d2 registering with the slots a5, so as to permit of bolts a7 being passed through each of the three sets of slots to hold the sets of plates assembled, as shown in Fig. l.
In mounting the shelf on a stovepipe the collars B operate as a means for holding the shelf in position as the toes a3 of thejrim B and the toes CLG of the plates a4 are clamped between the collar and the pipe, and when the bolts b2 of this collar are tightened the shelf will be secured to the pipe. The plates D D are then adjusted in the described manner and the nuts on the bolts a7 are tightened, l
thereby clamping all the parts securely together.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. Astovepipe-shelf comprisinga sectional rim, radially-disposed supporting-plates having their outer ends secured to the rim and their inner ends bent at right angles thereto, plates arranged above and below the supporting-plates, bolts passed through slots in the three sets of plates and a collar against which the inturned ends of the supporting-plates will bear when the parts are assembled, substantially as described.
2. A stovepipe-shelf comprising a sectional rim A, having arms a2 and toes a3 radiallydisposed supporting-plates a4 secured to Jshe the parts are assembled, substantially as de-l rim and having slots a and toes a, plates D, scribed. 1o arranged beneath the supporting-plates and In testimony whereof I'aflix my signature having slots d, plates D2 arranged above said in presence of two Witnesses.
5 supporting-plates and having slots d2, bolts VILLIAM IIAAS.
a7 passed through the slots of lhe three sets VitHeSSeS: of plates, and a sectional clamping-collar B, V. H. JONES,
against which the toes a3 and a6 bear when l FRANCIS MCVVHINNEY.
