PIPE-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 758,458, dated April 26, 1904.A
Application le'd October Z, 1902.
To all whom it may concern;
Be it known that I, CHARLES MAG'IAGGART, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pipe Hangers, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in pipe-hangers, and has for its object to provide a hanger which may be easily attached or detached from the pipe; and a further object of my invention is to provide means for easily attaching or detaching the hanger to its support.
i With these ends in view this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth, and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, the construction and operation will now be described in detail, referring to the accompanying drawings, forminga part of this specification, in which-- Figure'l is a side elevation of the invention; Fig. 2, a vertical section through the support shown in Fig. l; Fig. 3, a perspective View of the support shown in Fig. l; Fig. 4, a side elevation of a hanger, showing a modified method of supporting the same.
In the drawings I have shown an attachment which can be used in several ways for supporting the hanger.
In Fig. l I have shown the attachment threaded upon the lower end of a depending threaded support K. L is the attachment, and when the attachment is in position, as shown in Fig. 1, the bifurcatedend L is downward, and then the integral ring I may be attached by inserting the ring between the prongs and passing the pin J' through the ring and also through the transverse openings L2. The other end of the attachment L is provided with openings M, extending through the attachment in 'both directions, so as to cross one another.
This opening M is` so formed as to receive a iiat bar (not shown) and also to receive a bolt, a portion of said opening M being circular and being interiorly'threaded. When the attachment is to be suspended from a bar or a bolt Serial No. 125,686. (No model.)
N instead' of from the support K, the bar or bolt may pass through the opening M in either direction, and said attachment will hang upon the bar or bolt.
In Fig. 4 I have Shown a bolt N for binding the clamps B together. This bolt N is threaded its entire length, and before the clamps B are placed upon the bolt the bolt is threaded through the opening M in the attachment L and then the clamp B is placed upon each end ofthe bolt and nuts O are threaded upon the ends of the bolts, binding said clamps in position, and by turning the attachment L around on the bolt N said attachment can be adj usted to any position desired along said bolt, and when the correct position is obtained the ring I then can be attached, as before described.
Cf course I do not wish to be limited to the exact construction here shown, as slight modifications could be made without departing from the spirit of my invention.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is- 1. In a pipe-hanger, a member having elongated openings, at each side, a portion of said openings being .circular and threaded, the said openings being adapted to receive a fiat or round bar and means for suspending the member.
2. In a pipe-hanger, a member having elongated openings, at each side, a portion of said openings being circular and threaded, thesaid openings being adapted to receive a flat or round bar, means for attaching a pipe-support to the member and means for supporting the member.
3. In a pipe-hanger, a member" having a threaded aperture in its top, said member being hollow and having side apertures of elongated contour, a portion of said apertures being circular andthe walls of the circular portion being threaded, the said apertures adapted to receive circular or angular bars.
