Description
(No'Model.)
E. H. ISRAEL.
- PIPE HANGER. No. 558,391.
Patented Apr. 14, 1896 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
EARL II. ISRAEL, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, ASSIGN OR TO THE L. M. RUMSEY MANUFACTURING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
PIPE-HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part 0f Letters Patent N0. 558,391, dated April 14, 1896.
Application filed October 30,1895.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, EARL I-I. ISRAEL, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Pipe-Hangers, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
My invention relates to an improved form of pipe hanger or bracket, and refers to that class of hangers or brackets wherein the socket that receives the pipe is formed in two parts, so that the pipe can be released without removing the bracket from its support.
My invention consists in features of novelty hereinafter fully described, and pointed out in the claim.
Figure I is a top or plan View of my improved hanger or bracket. Fig. II is an elevation.
Referring to the drawings, l represents the wall or support part of the bracket, provided with holes 2 to receive screws or bolts by which the bracket is held to the wall or support. To this part of the bracket is secured or formed one member or half 3 of the sockct, and this part of the socket is provided with four ears 4, between each pair of which is a space 5.
6 represents the outer member or part of Serial No. 567,349. (No model.)
the socket, and which is formed with four ears 7, corresponding to the four ears 4 of the part 3 of the socket, and between each pair of which is a space 5.
8 represents screws or rivets passed through the ears 4 and 7 to secure the two parts of the socket together. By forming two pairs of lugs or ears on each side of the socket instead of forming a single pair (which to be properly arranged would be located centrally) there is afforded an opportunity for the use of a screw-driver in attaching the bracket to the wall without necessarily extending the length of the wall part of the bracket, as the screw-driver can revolve in the spaces 5 between the ears.
I claim as my invention-` A pipe hanger or bracket comprising a base-plate provided with orifices for the reception of screws, a socket-piece attached to the base-plate provided with a multiplicity of ears on each side forming spaces or recesses between the lugs and arranged to extend to near the openings in the base-plate, and a cap provided with lugs and recesses corresponding to those in the socket-piece; substantially as described.
EARL H. ISRAEL. In presence of- GEo. I-I. KNIGHT, N. FINLEY.
