RECEPTACLE-CLAIVIP.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 25, 1906.
Application filed August 5, 1905. Serial No. 272,935.
To (LZZ 11171.07 it 1/11/0311 concern:
Be it known that I, JosEPH A. REAus, a citizen of the United States, residing at WVest Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia, have inventedcertain new and useful Improvements in Receptacle-Clamps; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in means for clamping a receptacle to a support.
One of the several objects of the invention is the provision of peculiarly constructed clamp-receiving means carried by a receptacle, said receiving means constituting feet or lugs for the receptacle.
Another object of the invention is the provision of means for facilitating the clamping of a receptacle at different points thereof to a support.
WVith these and other objects in view the invention consists of certain other novel constructions, combinations, and arrangements of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the claims hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred embodiment of a clamp constructed in accordance with the present invention. Fig. 2 is a view in side elevation of the clamp depicted in Fig. 1 and showing the manner in which the clamp is secured to a receptacle and a support. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view of a receptacle which is provided with clamp-receiving means constituting the legs or feet thereof. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary side view of the receptacle depicted in Fig. 3, showing the clamp-receiving means in end elevation.
Referring to the drawings by reference-numerals, 1 designates the vertical body-por tion of a clamp which is provided with a hori zontal integral extension 2. The extension 2 is provided with a threaded recess 3, within which is positioned a thumb-screw or threaded bolt 4, having a support-engaging portion or head 5 swiveled thereon. The body portion 1 is provided with a horizontal integral right-angled extension 6, which constitutes finger carrying means. Formed integral upon the extension 6 and near the outer ends thereof are fiat fingers 7 7. The fingers 7 7 are preferably secured parallel and are substantially the same length. Depending lugs 8 S are formed integrally upon the horizontal extension 6 near the ends thereof.
Any suitable receptacle, as 9, which is preferably provided with a flat bottom, may be fixedly secured upon a support through the medium of my improved clamp if the bottom 10 is furnished with clamp-receiving means, which is preferably parallel members 11 11. Each of the members 11 11 is provided with a bulged body portion and with integral flanged edges constituting a substantially U shaped member, which conforms in structure to the fiat fingers 7, so that said fingers may be positioned within the members 11. The longitudinal flanged edges of members 11 are secured against the bottom 10 of the receptacle 9, Fig. 4, by any suitable means as, for instantlc soldering the same.
The horizontal extension 6 of the clamp is preferably curved or segmental in shape for the purpose of permitting the inner surface 12 thereof to fit snugly against the outer surface of the receptacle 9. The inner surface 13 of the body 1 of the clamp, which is thickened at this portion, is formed in the same vertical plane as the inner faces of the depending lugs 8 S. I/Vhen the fingers 7 7 of the clamp are positioned within the members 11 11, constituting clamp-receiving means carried by the receptacle 9, and the clamp is secured to a support 14, Fig. 2, the inner surface of the depending lugs S and the surface 13 of the body portion, which are formed in substantially the same vertical plane, will bear against the outer edge of the support, and the members 11 11 will be retained against the upper surface of the support 14, thereby permitting the receptacle 9 to be firmly clamped to said support when the thumb-screw is revolved for causing the head 5 to press against the bottom of the support 14.
It is to be noted that the members 11 are provided with a bulged body which bears against the support 14 when the receptacle is positioned thereon, said members 11 constituting feet or legs. By employing a pair of members 1 1 the receptacle 9 is retained upon the support 14 without any liability of said receptacle being rocked upon its feet or being overturned. I have preferably shown the longitudinal flanged edges of the members 11 provided with a portion bent back thereon for producing a reinforced edge.
What I claim is 1. A clamp comprising a horizontallycu'rved body, a vertical extension provided with a longitudinally-apertured portion, integral with the central portion of said body, a thumb-screw threaded into the apertured portion of said extension, parallel, horizontal fingers integral with and secured to said body at its ends, lugs integral with and depending from the bottom of said body, and each of said lugs provided with a vertical surface formed in substantially the same vertical plane with the inner surface of said integral extension.
2. A clamp, comprising a longitudinallycurvedbody, fingers integral with and secured to said body at its ends, said fingers extending from the lower horizontal edge of said body, depending, support-engaging lugs secured to the lower face and near the ends of said body, a vertical extension provided with a horizontal, apertured portion, integral with the central portion of said body, and a thumb-screw threaded into the apertured portion of said extension.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOSEPH A. BEAMS.
I Witnesses:
L. A. DAUGHERTY, A. A. SIMPSON.
