FEICE.
APATENT FREDRICK IV. BECKMAN, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
DRAWING-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Lettersy Patent No. 615,130, dated November 29, 1898.
Application led January 29,1898. Serial No. 668,445. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, FREDRICK W. BECKMAN, of Denver, in the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drawing-Tables; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specification.
This invention relates to drawing-tables particularly adapted for use in schools; and the object of the invention is to provide a table adapted for both free-hand and mechanical drawing, the same being provided with noiseless vertical and horizontally-rotatable adj ustment, whereby it may be arranged in proper position for the pupil.
The invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described and claimed and illustrated by the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective of my invention, the easel shown raised. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view with the easel shown raised in dotted lines and lowered in solid lines. Fig. 3 is an inverted plan view.
The support for the table consists of pedestal A, having its base B formed with screwapertures for securing to the floor, and raised from the pedestal is the threaded standard C.
D designates the table-top, having secured centrally to its under side the boss E, from which depends the elongated internallythreaded socket F, which works over standard C and affords the vertical adjustment for the table. The socket and standard are locked to each other and the table thereby made rigid by set-screw F.
The top surface of the table is formed with the A-shaped depression G, the extremities of the depression terminating at the front edge of the table adjacent beveled strip or stop H. Easel I, of form exactly to fit depression G, is hinged at its extremities adjacent strip H, as indicated at I', so that the same may be raised for use in free-hand work and when lowered so exactly fit the table-depression that its top presents a substantially unbroken surface for free-hand or other work.
For supporting the easel at the desired inclination arm J is hinged at its upper side to the cross arm 0I of the easel and depends through an aperture in the table and through the socket portion K of boss E, where it is secured by set-screw K. Arm J is hinged between its ends, as indicated at J', so that when in lowered position its lower section swings backward toward socket F out of the way.
Drawer L is secured in convenient position upon the under side of the table for the reception of tools and materials, and the tables under surface is also provided with the elongated holder M to receive T-square N.
A rotatable and constantly horizontal table is thus provided which may be fixed at any desired elevation, so as to constitute a rigid support, and without interfering with its iiat top surface a vertically-adjustable easel is embedded therein, which may be raised at will for the purpose of free-hand or other Work.
The table is absolutely noiseless in its adjustment and is particularly adapted on this account for use in school-rooms.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. An improved drawing-table including a table-top, and a vertically-adjustable easel normally embedded in the top s'o that the latter presents a substantially unbroken surface when the easel is lowered, substantially as shown and described.
2. An improved drawing-table including a table-top formed with a depression in its top surface, and a vertically-adjustable easel corresponding in size and shape to the depression and adapted to iit therein so as to present a substantially smooth and unbroken surface, substantially as shown and described.
3. An improved drawing-table including a table-top formed with a depression in its top surface, an easel of the size and shape of the.
depression and adapted to iit therein, hinges uniting one end of the easel with the table,
and mechanism for moving the easel on the hinges, substantially as shown and described.
el. An improved d rawin gi-table, in eludin g a table-top, an easel hinged on the upper side of lche top, and a sectional Curved arm for supporting the easel at the desired adjustment, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence o'l' two witnesses.
FREDRICK XV. BECKMAN.
