DRAWING-BOARD REST.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 645,217, dated March 13, 1900. Application filed December 2, 1899. Serial No. 739,061. (No model.)
To all whom, t 77mg/ concern:
Be it known that I, HARRY WILLIAM RoB- ERTS, a subject of the Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at Kingston I-Iouse,New market, in the county of Cambridge, England, have invented Improvements in Drawing- Board Rests, of which the following is a specicat-ion.
My invention relates to improvements in drawingboard rests; and the object is to provide means whereby the board can be placed at almost any angle with the table in order to better catch the light and suit the convenience of the user. v It also enables the board to be revolved on its center, so that any part of the surface of whatever is upon it may be readily brought into position for easy eX- amination or for working on.
In carrying my invention into effect I proceedin or about the following manner, making reference to the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a plan, Fig. 2 an end View, and Fig. 3 a side view, of theboard and attachment, Fig. 4 showing how it is used.
Similar letters indicate the same parts wherever they occur.
To the underside of the center of the drawin g-board a I screw or otherwise attach ablock of wood or other suitable material b. Through the block b and free to turn therein is passed the upper part of the screw c, the point of which is screwed into the cross-piece d, to the ends of which are tenoned or otherwise attached the sides e f g hj. The slope of f g may be forty-live degrees and of hj sixty degrees. A
In use the board may be placed either so that one of the slopes f g or hj rests on the table 7c or so that one edge of the crosspiec`e d rests on the table 7c, the back of the board ct being in contact with the edge of the table 7c, as at the point Z. In either case the board a overhangs the table 7c, and the board may be further adjusted by turning it on 4the screw c.
To prevent injury to the table 7o, rubber bands m may be slipped over each end of the cross-piece d, grooves n being, if required,- provided in the piece d to keep` the b ands m in place. i
It is essential that the various parts should be properly proportioned to the size of the board used, and the dimensions of those shown on the drawings are for a board to carry paper up to double-imperial size.
lVhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a drawing-board rest a block attached to the under side of a drawing-board; a screw turning in the said block; a cross-piece below the under side' of the said drawing-board and receiving the point of the said screw; side pieces on the upper part of which rests the under side of the drawing-board, the said side pieces having sloped ends and being at tached to the said cross-piece; and rubber bands su rro undin g the ends of the said crosspiece, the whole substantially as described and illustrated.
In testimony whereof I have signed my' name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
HARRY WILLIAM ROBERTS.
Vitnesses:
PETER HUGHEs, WILLIAM ORossLY.
