Description

. H. E. BUTLER.
No. 533,046. Patented Jan. 29, 1895.
NTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
COMBINED DRAWING-BOARD AND HOLDER.
vSPECIFICALIO1\T forming part of Letters Patent No. 533,046, dated January 29, 1 895. Application led .Tune 17, 1892. Renewed July 9, 1894- Serial No. 517,017. (No model.)
To all whom, it may concern,-
Be it known that I, HIRAM E. BUTLER, a citizen of theUnited States, residing at Jamestown, in the county oli' Chautauqua and State of NewA York, have invented certain new and useful Improvementsin a Combined Drawing- Board and Holder, of which the following is a description.
The object of my invention is to combine a childs drawing copy and blackboard with a common chair for the purpose of holding the same in a substantial manner and where it will be convenient for use, and the improvement, consists, in one or more cleats across the drawing board frame, leaving sufficient room under said cleats to receive the top of a chair, the pitch of the board being given by a plate secured to the bottom of the frame and to the cross rail of a chair as will be readily understood by this specification and the accompanying drawings, in which- Figure 1, is a perspective of board attached. Fig. 2, shows method of attaching to chair.
In the drawings A, represents the main frame for my drawing, copy and black-board, having a long strip of paper or cloth D mounted on rolls b, b, at the upper end of the frame, said rolls being provided with lend springs (not shown in drawings) so the desired tension can be put on the rolls for the purpose of keepingthe said sheets smooth, the copy sheet being provided with a large number of pictures.
Just below the copy sheet is the blackboard B Well secured in the frame. Across the back of the frame are cleats a, a, having room under them to receive the back of a chair as shown and at the bottom of the frame A, is securely jointed a plate d preferably made of metal, and having holes to secure it by a screw to the cross rail of the chair. The upper cleat and the different holes in the plate are for the purpose of holding the blackboard at different angles and positions on the chair.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
l. In a drawing board and holder, the combination with a chair of a copy sheet mounted above a blackboard, on movable rolls near the top of the frame, the back of the frame being provided with suitable cleats to receive the back of a chair, an adjustable plate secured to the bottom of the frame and provided with -a suitable fastening device to secure it to the frame of the chair substantially as shown'and forthe purpose set forth. n
2. In a drawing board and holder, the chair C, in combination with a copy sheet and black-board mounted in a frame, said frame being provided with a cleat across the back to receive theback of the chair, the hinged plate d having holes e and a screw for securing the same to the back of the chair, substantially as shown and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
