TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WILLIAM WHITE, of Greensburg, in the county of Decatur, and in the State of Indiana', have invented' improvements in Lime-Kilns, and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and enact description thereof,- reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making part of this specification.
In the annexed drawings, A represents a horizontal limelkiln, which is constructed of any suitable material. At the rear end of said kiln, B represents the chimney for carrying oli' the products of combustion.I This kiln is constructed so that the rear end is just about '0ne=halfu the size of the front end, (see red lines,') letters r and s, Figure 2. A section of thekiln is seen in fig. 2, taken'through lines as l:, in vFigure 1, while i'lgfl represents a horizontal* vertical section. The interior ceiling of this kiln is made in the form of, an arch and also tapers from front tol rear, (J to' K, iigure,) While the door, W, .being .tapered as above, is also highest at the rear end, m n. At the front oi' the kiln there are three or' more tire doors,'b, under which are placedgr'ates, d, to allow the ashes to fall into their respective'pits, e. a-represents an opening above the fire doors to placeV the lime, orvfor other purposes. At the rear eud'of the kiln near the chimney there is placed a perforated dividing board, C, and through which perforationsLz, passes the smoke into the receiving flue, D, and from thence up the chimney, B.
My object is to concentrate'the heat within the kiln, and Aprevent its passage 4np the flue, and at the same time cause the heat concentrated within the kiln to spread andelectnally; and more quickly to kiln the lime. The arrangement of the doors, b, allows the use of either wood or coal.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to' secure by Letters Patent, is
The horizontal taper lime-kiln A., when constructed as. described, and provided with the doors 6,' and dividing perforated partition C, in the manner and for the purposes set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing horizontal lime-kiln with two, three, ror more fires, tapering at rear end to about the same capacity as the irel surface, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 'third day of December, 1866. 1
