FILE FOR PRESCRIPTIONS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 604,108, dated May 17, 1898.
Application filed December 18, 1897. Serial No. 661,641. (No model.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, ALFRED II. COOK, J12, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Joliet, in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Files for Prescriptions, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the reference thereon, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a front perspective view of the file, showing how prescriptions may be placed thereon. Fig. 2 is a side view of the file, showprescriptions placed thereon and showing how they may be turned back on themselves and showing the point of the part carrying the prescriptions extending to pass the body of the file slightly to prevent the prescriptions from becoming detached from the file. Fig. 3 is a back View of the file, showing the loops for carrying prescriptions turned laterally from each other, so their points may extend slightly beyond the body and not be in contact therewith. Fig. 4 is a cross-sectional view of Fig. 2 looking in the direction of the arrow, taken on line 1.
This invention relates to certain improvements in prescription-files for druggists use and constructed of one piece of wire, which improvements are fully set forth and explained in the following specification and claim.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body of the file, formed to be substantially V-shaped and having its two extremities or legs E bent backward, so as to form substantially a rectangular receptacle for prescriptions B and having the pointed ends D arranged to slightly pass the body A at its outer sides and extend a trifle beyond the line of the body, as shown in Figs. 1, 2, and 4:. Such extension of the points D beyond the line of the body A prevents the prescriptions from falling out of their receptacle, and the lateral extension of said points is such as to leave a space between them and the body and renders it easy to place the prescriptions on their hooked receptacles.
Fig. 4: shows more particularly the position of the points D with relation to the body A and shows how a prescription is placed on the file, its outer edges beingturned down a trifle,
so as to pass under the points D, and when in proper position turned upward, so as to come in contact with said points and be perforated thereby and moved along to the positions in their receptacles, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 particularly.
By means of turning the points D laterally from the body A, as shown in Fig. 3 more particularly, the bodies E of the hooked re-' ceptacles are made to be parallel with each other, so as to prevent crimping of the prescription after it is placed on the file.
This file may be made of wire or any other suitable material and of any varied form, but not so as to depart from the construction substantially as shown.
In use the file is intended to carry prescriptions placed thereon in the order in which they may come in, as it may lay on the prescriptioncase, and whenever it may be desired to refer to any prescription thereon they may be turned backward on themselves, as is shown in broken lines in Fig. 1 and in full lines in Fig. 2, until the desired one is found, the position of the points D, passing beyond the line of the body A of the file, as shown particularly in Fig. 2, preventing the prescriptions from becoming disengaged from the file, the whole forming a very neat, durable, and effective file for the purpose intended. This file may be used as well for filing any other articles as well as prescriptions.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is as follows:
The prescription-file shown and described consisting of a single piece of wire bent to form substantially a V-shaped body, and having its extremities or arms terminating in needle-points D, and bent backward toward said body so as toform loops E for holding prescriptions, said needle-points D being extended slightly beyond the line of said body and turned laterally from each other to be out of line with said body and leavea passage for the insertion of prescriptions, and so said loops or prescription-receptacles will be substantially parallel with each other substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
