Description

110.847.147. V -PATEN.TED MAR. 12, 1907'.
J. B. ARTHUR.
TRAY.
UNITE STATES PATENT FFTCE.
TRAY.
Specification of Letters Patent.
.Eatented March 12, 1907.
Application filed September 4,1906. Serial No. 333,218,
To alt w/wm it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMEs B. ARTHUR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trays, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to trays for conveyers; and its object is to provide a tray of simple and inexpensive construction especially adapted for use in bakeries for containing cakes.
It is the custom in large bakery establishments to dry the icing or coating of cakes by passing the same upon suitable conveyers through an aircooling compartment, and the present invention aims to provide a wire tray especially adapted for this purpose.
The invention comprises a tray of suflicient depth to contain the articles to be dried provided with a supporting-frame having integral suspending-loops at its ends.
The invention also includes certain features of construction and combination of parts, which will be fully described herein after in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of the specification, and in which Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a tray embodying the invention suspended between conveyor-chains. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the tray, and Fig. 3 is a front elevation of parts of two conveyer-chains.
The reference-numeral 1 designates a rectangular wire frame formed at each of its ends 2 with parallel upwardly-extending bends or loops 3, contracted, as at 3, to prevent their accidental disengagement from their hangers.
The body of the tray is formed of parallel transverse wires 4, having their ends 5 bent around the sides of the frame 1, and longitudinal wire strands 6, supported by the trans verse wires 4 and secured thereto in any suit able manner.
The tray constructed as thus described is adapted to be suspended by inverted-V- shaped hangers 7, formed at their ends with hooks 8, engaging the loops 3 of the tray. As illustrated in Fig. '1, the hangers 7 are suspended upon pins 9, projecting laterally from conveyor-chains l0, and it will be noted that as the loops 3 are adjacent to the front and rear sides of the tray the latter will be supported in a level position upon the carrier-chains, the hangers 7 permitting the loaded trays to maintain the proper horizontal position by gravity.
The construction described provides a simple, durable, and sanitary tray which I have found well adapted for the bakers trade.
It will of course be understood that the invention is not restricted to the precise construction illustrated in the drawing, but includes all such changes in the minor details as may be resorted to without departing from the terms and scope of the claims.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination with conveyer-chains provided with projecting pins, of inverted- V-shaped hangers formed at their ends with hooks, and a tray comprising a rectangular wire frame, the ends of which are formed with upwardly-extending loops engaging the hooks of said hangers, and a body portion of interlaced wires supported by said frame.
2. The combination with conveyer-chains provided with projecting pins, of hangers suspended from said pins, and formed at their ends with hooks, and a tray comprising a rectangular frame the ends of which are formed with upwardly-extending contracted loops engaging said hooks, and a body portion of interlaced wires supported by said frame.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES B. ARTHUR.
