UNITED STATES CHARLES C. JOHNSON, OF SPRINGFIELD, VERMONT, ASSIGNOR TO THE MORGAN ENVELOPE COMPANY, OF MASSACHUSETTS.
TOILET-PAPER HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 416,842, dated December 10, 1889.
Application filed February 25, 1889. Serial No. 301,080. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, CHARLES C. JOHNSON, of Springfield, in the county of Windsor and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toilet-Paper removed therefrom and must be entirely used up before the holder can be adjusted to receive another roll. 7
Referring to the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my improved holder as it appears when ready to receive a roll of paper. Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, showing the position of the parts when locked together and after the application of the roll, the roll being indicated in Fig.3 is a sectional view taken on the line a: 00, Fig. 2.
Similar letters of reference in the several figures indicate the same parts.
The main part of the holder consists of a wire having an upper horizontal portion 1, preferably one or more coils 2 at its upper corners, downwardly-extending portions 3,
and lower arms 4 and 5, the former terminating, preferably, in an eye 6 and the latter in a hook 7, adapted to engage with the eye 6 when the parts 3 3 are pressed toward each other, and prevented from disengagement by a spring tongue or keeper 8.
Upon the arms 4 and 5, I arrange, so as to revolve freely, a pair of conical plugs 9 9, which are preferably made of wood and of a size adapted to fit tightly within the ends of the central opening in a roll of paper.
To apply a roll of paper, first one arm 4 or 5, with its plug, is inserted in the end of the roll, and then the other arm and plug are likewise inserted in the opposite end of the roll, after which the parts 3 3 are pressed 'toward each other until the plugs are tightly seated in the ends of the roll and the hook 7 engages with the eye 6. cannot be had to the spring tongue or keeper while there is any paper in the roll, it is impossible to unfasten the hook from the eye, and consequently the whole roll has to be used up, as intended, and cannot be at any stage removed from the holder. The horizontal portion 1 may be secured to a bracket or clip-plate, such as shown, by staples or clips of any kind fastened to the wall or other support, so as to enable it to swing freely.
It will be observed that when there is no roll upon the fixture there is no liability of the plugs being lost from their respective supporting-arms, as the hook on one arm and the eye on the other prevent them from coming off. S
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is 1. In a toilet-paper holder such as described, the combination of the arms for entering the roll of paper from opposite ends,
having interlocking devices at their inner ends, and plugs for fitting the aperture of the roll arranged on the arms at opposite sides of the interlocking devices, substantially as described.
2. The paper-holder consisting of the upper portion, the downwanQlty-eXtending springy portions, the inwardlyned arms having the interlocking devices at ends, and the plugs arranged on the said inwa turned arms on opposite sides of the interlocking d evices, substantially as described.
4. In a toilet-paper holder,-a wire frame having inwardly-turned arms provided with Inasmuch as access- PATENT OFFICE.

with a spring tongue or keeper for the hook, substantially as described.
5. In a toilet-paper holder, a Wire frame interlocking hook and eye, as described, and ALICE M. VVHEELER, with a spring tongue or keeper for the hook, J UST'US DORTT.
