. designates the cap of the screen, which pref Be it known that I, JOHN OONLISK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ogden, in the county of Weber and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Head-Screens; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates to head-screens, and contemplates the provision of an extremely simple and light head-screen and one which is adapted to be wornbeneath an ordinary hat and which is so constructed as to permit of the operator eating or eXpectorating without the necessity of removing it. I

The invention will be fully understood from the following description and claims when taken in conjunction with the annexed drawings, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved screen in its operative position, and Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective view of the same with some of the parts partially broken away.

erably comprises a crown a and band I) and .is made of some suitable soft material, so as to permit of an ordinary hat being worn overit, and B designates the mask or face-protector, which is curved in cross-section and is formed of wire-gauze sufficiently stiff to enable it to retain its shape and prevent it from being uncomfortable to the wearer of the screen. The said mask or face-protector is permanently connected at its upper end to .in rear of the mask or face-protector and preferably has its lower edge slitted at opposite points, as indicated by 0, so as to enable it to better accommodate itself to the shoulders of the wearer. The edge of the netting contiguous to the lower end of the mask or face-protector B is not connected to said end, but is provided with a piece of elastic material E for detachably holding it upon the lower end of the mask or face-protector, the binding 0 offering a suificient obstruction to prevent the said piece of elastic material and the edge of the netting from being casually disengaged from the mask when it is placed thereon. While this is so, the piece of elastic E and the edge of the netting D may be readily disengaged from the mask or faceprotector when desired, so as to afford the opening F, (see Fig. 2,) which permits of the wearer conveniently expectorating or eating without the necessity of removing the screen or raising the netting I), which is an important advantage.

It will be appreciated from the foregoing that my improved screen is adapted to be quickly and easily placed in position upon and as readily removed from the wearer when desired, that it is adapted to be comfortably worn beneath any ordinary hat, and that, while it is extremely simple and very light in weight, it forms a highly-efficient protection against mosquitos and similar insects.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A head-screen comprising a suitable cap, a mask or face-protector of wire-gauze connected to and depending from the forward portion of the cap, and the netting permanently connectedto the side edges of the mask or face-protector and to the cap and having its edge contiguous to the lower end of the mask or face-protector provided with suitable means for removably securing it upon the lower portion of the mask or face-protector, substantially as specified.

2. Ahead-screen comprising a suitable cap, a mask or face-protector of wire-gauze connected to and depending from the forward portion of the cap, and the netting permanently connected to the side edges of the mask or face-protector and to the cap and having its edge contiguous to the lower end of the mask or face-protector provided with a piece of elastic material for removably securing it upon the lower portion of the mask or face-protector, substantially as specified.

3. The head-screen described comprising the cap of soft material, the mask or faceprotector of wire-gauze connected to and depending from the forward portion of the cap and having the binding on its edges, and the netting permanently connected to the cap and the binding on the side edges of the mask or faceI-protector and having its edge contiguous to the lower end of the mask or faceproteetor provided with a piece of elastic material for removably securing it upon the lower portion of the mask or face-protector above the bindingon the lower end thereof, substantially as specified.
